I had a courtyard room in 2005, and switched to the tower in 2006. The tower is the way to go. The price premium is a little steep this year, but I splurged anyway.
So what is the deal about the tower? Off hand I can't see spending the dough unless there is something great about the tower? Better rooms? Better ambiance? More bling?

Convenience to the parking garage was/is a big one. The courtyard rooms are a separate building, and you have to walk outside and across a driveway (admittedly, NOT a really big deal, but it was pretty chilly a couple nights in '05) to the other building. Of course, my room that year was also buried DEEP inside the courtyard building, so it was a real hike to go from my room to the garage, or back. Not that I mind the walking, but it can get to be a real drudge with as many back and forth trips to the garage, where everything's happening. I think my tower room last year was a bit nicer than the courtyard room, too - not necessarily $40 a night nicer, but that combined with the closer garage proximity and the view of all the MINIs down below made it worthwhile to me.
I remember being envious in 2005 of the people who, after we both took the elevator and short walk down the hall from the top of the garage, turned left to go about 20 feet to the tower elevators, knowing that I had about another eighth mile to walk to my room.

This is the best way I can describe the benefit of the Tower rooms.

Most people up in the tower like the view of all the MINIs down below. It makes for a cool pic.
Personally, I've always stayed down below. But I have enough wide-angle lenses to snap the pics I want without nosebleeds. Plus, there're lots of cool MINIacs to hang out with at ground-level.
^^ I can see my car sitting next to Todd's booth.....What a view. 4th year in the Tower. Arriving on Wednesday (just a little anxious), departing on Monday. Whoo Hoo
Just booked a courtyard room. Figured that as long as I'm there, that's good enough. Plis, a slightly lower price makes it a bit more palatable for the wife.
I did that the first year too...then the wife gave me the stink eye saying she "wasn't worth the nicer room" Damned if you do...damned if you don't
Steve and I will be heading down on Wednesday also.
Well then ...... lets make a plan to meet up Fresno Wednesday morning and go from there.. Be sure to call ahead to make sure the Tavern is well stocked...
This is what I like about being a MINI owner/enthusiast. You folks all scare me (in a good way). I'm still trying to get my act together for Halloween and here we're already talking about where to meet and minute details on getting to AMVIV V already.
Let's see....last year, I booked in January....it's getting earlier and earlier. Should start looking into AMVIV VI soon also.
Congratulations to Sin City MINIs. This has become an annual must do event for MINI owners. Now if I could only convince my wife it's not too early to think about March and that she should ignore that little mishap from last year....
