Geocaching at MOTD08

This is a continuation from a thread started for MOTD07. I know I missed most of the caches this year, but make sure you've got enough batteries for your GPS and I'll get coordinates when I'm at MME and post an Event Cache for 2008 on www.geocaching.com. I'll "try" to bring along my favorite TB for others to discover and MINImuggles to go "huh?" over.

Count us in. If we ever get some time, we have a few caches in our area to check out. My wife is really interested in this.

I'm sorry to hear that... We finally had to get two GPS units just so I could go geocaching (we hit 400 Tuesday- of those maybe 20 are mine) It's almost as addicting as motoring. Then again you have to get to the cache some how

Scoped out a location while on the way to MME but can't reserve anything until January... will post event details on geocaching.com and here once we have everything set.
I'm looking at setting up a pathtags for 2008- http://www.pathtags.com/index.php any suggestions?

Glad to have you join us! Caching and motoring can be a bad combination (you'll never see home again).

I ordered my first pathtag a couple days ago- playing around with a MINICCI design. Once I see how it goes I'll start working on a Dragon design- was thinking about the circular dragon design (used on the grill badge in 06 and the patches in 07). Once I see the exact turn around time I'll have a better guess as to when we need to have things finalized.

Glad to see we've got some interest! Got the MINICCI pathtags back and they looked great so I ordered a personal one and another design for my wife. It takes about 8 weeks to get an initial design done so we've got some time. I'll see what I can hammer out for us to use and post the ideas.

My wife (koikeeper) is seriously into geocaching. This is just the incentive needed to make her want to come to the event. Please keep me informed by PM on your progress. Thank you very much for doing this!!!! I just might make MOTD08 because of your efforts.

Location has been reserved (once the check clears) for the "MINI Meet & Greet" on the afternoon of Saturday May 3rd. Event will be posted on geocaching.com. I'm still considering doing Pathtags, but part of me really wants to make a geocoin for this... any thoughts?

I realized that my MINI has done more off-roading than most Hummers since I started caching... don't worry the location has a lovely paved parking lot.

I am thinking of setting one up as I will be getting there on Tuesday 4-29. I am thinking of doing some extra special stuff in a VERY difficult location. Perhaps gift cards for the business!

Definately count us in on the Meet & Greet. Can you make sure that it gets added to the events schedule? As for the pathtags versus a geocoin...I vote geocoin! I have been looking for a MINI specific geocoin for ages and not been able to locate one. I think a coin is a great idea!!! Count me in for purchasing at least 2.

And I know what you mean about your MINI doing more off roading than most Hummers. Chester (my MINI) has logged many a nerve wrecking dirt road to get his family a little closer to the cords. LOL!!!

I just started pricing out trackable geocoins I may change my mind, but right now I'm thinking pathtags might be the better way to go. I'll keep looking around and fortunately we have some time so if someone else would like to head up geocoins I will not complain. Pathtags are a definite and I'll hopefully have some design ideas to post soon... geocoins-ouch!

For those wondering what this geocaching thing is all about, Asheville has just announced "The Ultimate AsheCache" starting May 20 . While it is after the Dragon it does give me another excuse to return. Their website does have a nice introduction to geocaching for those uninitiated.

Hey all, I just started GeoCaching thanks to finding this thread reading about the Dragon. I'm just using my Nuvi200 and so far it has been very accurate even while walking through the woods.
I'm trying to talk the wife into a Dragon trip.
Oh she thinks I'm nuts..... LOL She sits in the car while I rustle through the trees and ditches and kringes when I turn off on another dirt road.... She'll come around. OH did I mention she hates bugs, spiders, ticks, and all that stuff that might be found while searching... Snake ! ! ! AH ! ! !
I have already discovered a skunk while searching. Those GeoCoins and TB are really cool to find and track.

Spiders? Snakes? Skunks? I haven't seen any of those in the Walmart parking lot LPC's I've gotten When I first started my wife thought it was "interesting" now she's the one running around in the mud between business meetings. If you don't already, I would suggest listening to the Podcacher podcast out of San Diego I figure we will record something for them at the Dragon event on May 3rd. I'm also working on a travel bug to launch and as you saw above probably a pathtag or trackable pin. Geocoins while cool are really expensive.
