WI via IL, IN, KY, TN to NC Caravan?

Plan "A" - I'm leaving on Wednesday, May 2 from the Appleton-Neenah-Oshkosh area (100 miles north of Milwaukee). I was wondering if there are other Dragon runners leaving about that same time from the Milwaukee-Racine-Kenosha and perhaps Chicago areas?

If not, then my Plan "B" is to go I-43 from Milwaukee to the Beloit area, picking up I-39 south to I-80 to avoid the traffic in Chicago. From there I-65 through Indianapolis south to KY. I have reservations to stay in the London, KY area on Wednesday night, completing the trip on Thursday morning. (I would maybe do the whole trip in one day, but the wife is riding along and I don't think she would want to do the 800+ miles all in one day!)

I'm open to any ideas or suggestions.

Hi,

You didn't specify the time you are leaving. My brother and I will probably be heading out of Milwaukee at 7:30 - 8:00pm ish on Wednesday evening. Our goal is to make it into Indiana before calling it a night. Sounds to me like you are planning on leaving earlier than that?

What??? there's traffic in Chicago?!?!?

I'm leaving TUE, stopping halfway near Florence, KY to arrive at Fontana on WED. I know there are several Chicago-area MINIs leaving WED am, but they're planning on driving straight through to Fontana, no layover. London, KY is pretty close to the Dragon already... nice short trip the next day.

I plan to leave fairly early on Wednesday, perhaps getting into Milwaukee around 7-7:30 am. Not sure if I could catch the group leaving from Chicago, but I'd like to hear from them so if needed I can adjust my plans. It would be easy for the Chicago group to make Fontana Wednesday night as that is 175-200 less miles for them to travel than from where I start.

Cooper Guy, I'm not part of the Chicago group, but I was planning to leave Western Burbs Wed a.m. and stop overnight anywhere S of Lexington, KY. I don't blame you for wanting to miss the Chi traffic by going around, not through.

I would be interested in meeting up and travelling together. I used to weekly commute between Chi and Kokomo, IN and I normally go down I-57 from I-80 to Kankakee then US 45, US 52 and US 24 to I-65 near Remington, IN. That avoids the construction on I-294/80/94 S of Chicago. We could easily hook up at a rest area just S of Monee on I-57, or if you want to go 80 to 65 there is a rest area on 65 just S of Crown Point.

Well, being as I won't be caravanning out with the rest of the sotaMINIS group on Tuesday, I'll be leaving Rochester Wed afternoon, picking up a friend in Winona, and then planning on driving straight thru We are planning on getting to Corbin KY for lunch at Sonny's BBQ, and then off to Fontana. It looks like Sonny's may be a meeting place for a few groups

for the record it's the same timewise to go through cinci as it is to go through louisville.

I lived in gb until a while ago. I-65 from chitown to indy can be made in very very good time.

I made the trip to where I am in 12.5 hours. Moving quickly. I'd bet you are 13 hours from the dragon at a good clip.

Still trying to decide if I should go around Chicago (via Rockford) or just suck it up and go through Chicago. I just hate construction.

I haven't heard from any of the other WI folks heading out except Jorgeaz, but he isn't leaving 'til late Wednesday. The Chicago group is leaving around 6:15 am Wednesday; kinda early for me to get there by then. I'm sure I'll pick up someone along the way.

Got the MINI all cleaned up, coat of wax, Rain-x treated windows, put the Eagles on and new parcel shelf installed. Ready to roll!

I'm leaving the Mke area Wednesday evening after work (6ish), will be around Chitown proper most likely ~7:30-8:00pm, so hopefully I'll miss the worst of rush hour (I know, it's always rush hour in Chicago). Stopping for a few zzzz's in Indy, but back on the road early Thursday AM. Maybe catch you guys on the way.

We hope to get to about London, KY or so by Wednesday night, but maybe if you drive fast enough you can catch us on the last leg on Thursday. I'm sure there will be lenty of MINIs on the road between Tuesday and Thursday.

I'm leaving tuesday evening from Kenosha.... but only to the NW Burbs to "check the dog in" to her hotel. (My parents' place) So I'll be heading back through chicago sometime around 8am on Wednesday. Staying the night in Corbin,KY at the CUmberland Falls resort for a little getaway-on-the-way.
I keep thinking we won't be able to help seeing groups... do you dragon vets agree???

There are 7 or 8 MINIs leaving Lexington, KY around noon on Thursday, so we can join up if the times (and planets) align correctly.

StJamesG8,

Cooper Guy and I are hooking up at the rest area on I-57 just S of Monee Wed. a.m. He & spouse plan on departing Appleton about 5 a.m. and hitting Chi area around 7:30. He will call me from Gurnee area and I will leave W. burbs then and probably hook up around 8:15 or 8:30. See post 7 above for rough route via Kankakee and Remington to I-65 @ US 24. It misses a lot of construction on either the Ryan or I-80/94 SE of Chi. We are planning to stop at London, KY which is just 14 miles N of Corbin.

Either way, have a great trip.
