1st Annual (I hope) Glowin' on the Dragon
1st Annual (I hope) Glowin' on the Dragon
Well, it's official... Mark added this to the event planner. Yay! Thanks to everyone that posted in the feeler thread.
The clinic will be held on Saturday, May 5 at 4:30-5:30 (posssibly longer at the sufferage of our bored spouses).
Location is still TBD (looks like there will be a demo space in the center of the vendor area). More details as I have them.

The clinic will be informational and will cover basic lighting MOD techniques, including the use of LED and cold cathode illumination in the MINI Cooper. I'll demo the lighting MODs installed on my car, including my LED door-sill puddle lights, my blue front/rear cold cathode cabin lighting, my rear seat LED spots, LED boot lighting using LED strips and my grille/engine bay cathode/LED illumination. We'll also talk about driving lights including switched vs. hard-wired configuration. I'll also discuss how to make a custom switch box to drive all this extra electrical goodness. The clinic will also cover basic electrical safety, including proper use of fuses and switches, how to safely run wires through the MINI's firewall/engine compartment, etc.

A complete list of all my MODs, including pictures can be found in THIS THREAD (see post #166 for a list with many How-to links).
Raffle prizes including LED strips. cold cathode kits and prewired LEDs will be provided by www.oznium.com - because of the expected number of participants, we ask that you fill out only ONE entry per car please - I'd like as many people as possible to go home with something.
See you on the Dragon!

Since we'll only have an hour, I plan to simply demo all that I have installed in my car and then talk about general installation theory and tips, electrical safety, use of fuses and switches etc. try to de-mystify the process, in other words (this ain't rocket science and I'm of the opinion that anyone with a bit of logic and patience can get great results).
I'll be around all weekend and will be happy to help with advice and what-not for your specific instalaltion, although, fair warning: you might have to bribe my wife if you want to suck me into an installation - she gets frightfully bored when I start "geeking out" with all this lighting stuff...
PS - I just heard that Outmotoring.com is also going to provide some lighting-type accessories for our raffle - thanks so much Outmotoring! If any other vendors out there want to toss in a few items for our raffle, I'll be happy to give them away for you! It would be awesome if every single participant could walk away with something!

Nope - just show up on Saturday @4:30. I figure even if I made a limited sign-up sheet, since the location will probably be in the middle of the vendor area, people will probably just wander in, anyway.
PS - LOVE those Texas stripes!

This appears to be more of a tech session, so it would probably be kind of hard to show wireing and what not in the dark.
I am so there for this. I've already been following all of your other exploits with LED's and have done a few on my own, but could definitely use some pointers, tips on certains aspects of it.
WooHoo!

Do you have any plans for "take-home" instructions?
I apparently have a problem with reading comprehension and am have a hard time following the thread for boot lighting on the cabrio.

I've got one of the LED flex strips mounted in the boot, and it's lighting up with no problems, however I can't seem to get the headphone jack/plug deal working. This is the one piece that I am wanting to get worked out.
Not sure how doable this is from your standpoint (and I know most all of your LED's came from Oznium), but what might be nice is if you had some type of paper to pass out that had a parts list of what you have installed, where it's installed, etc..
