Fontana has a camp ground just below the resort about 3-4 miles away. Have not stayed there but I understand it has bathroom and showers

First timers here too! My wife and I are already making the plans for the trip. I've been to Ashville before with the Triumph club and I know the Blue Ridge has some great sections, so we are looking forward to this trip for sure. Coming down from New Jersey, but don't know if anyone else will be coming down. Would love to get a caravan from up here.

OK, we just booked our room at the Blue Boar Inn. The place looks great and we read the reviews from last year about the ride over to the Dragon. But isn't that what MINI's are all about!

So I am on the wait list for Fontana Village, but since I figure I have a better chance of playing pick-up sticks with my butt cheaks than actually getting a room, I better find something else.

That said, what else is close by?

As the days pass by people will cancel their Fontana reservations, trust me. People book early hoping/planning to make it and then things come up.

But there's the Tapoco Lodge, The Blue Boar B&B & The Blue Waters Mountain Lodge (which is a B&B).

We stayed at Blue Waters last year and it was perfect. The hosts are very, very nice and extremely helpful. The breakfasts were very delicious. And if you like driving you get to drive 30 minutes to and from Fontana at the beginning and end of each day. Blue Waters is in Robbinsville. It's not cheap but it was so worth it.

This year we're in the lodge at Fontana so I can run the Brew Swap again and this time get tanked and walk back to the lodge.

I so love this event! Made my reservation at checkout last year as well... I've also discovered it's GREAT to get there a few days early and make a week of it- you get to enjoy the area a bit before the madness sets in!

can hardly wait.....

You may have to call it the Michigan MINI Brew Swap. We plan to dominate the Olympics.

My wife and I are arriving several days early, too. Glad to hear there will be other "early arriver" MINI enthusiasts.

Uh, if you want a chance to beat Michigan you'd better get on it immediately. Three spots of the 4 have been filled for the Beerlympics.

Florida's SSM has a team
Michigan MINIs has TWO teams.

That leaves one spot left. I figure the Chicago or Pittsburgh crews would man up and fill the last spot. If both want in I'd be tempted to open it up to 5 crews but that would take some planning on my part (and additional dough).

Tomorrow I plan on updating the Brew Swap webpage (www.dragonbrewswap.com) with some new info. But you can go there right now and see the prize packs that'll be given away. So far I've put together 18 prize packs and I should be able to reach 20 in a couple weeks.

OH and whoever wins the Pong event outright will have to battle me and a partner in Beer Pong post Beerlympics. That's mandatory so I can put you in your place and you don't get a big head, oh Snap!

Snooter, great web-site! Lots of very useful content. I hope you are not getting killed on bandwidth with all of the hits.

I was wondering though, I saw on the site that Graham County is dry. How dry is it? I think back to my days traveling to NW Arkansa with counties that were sooo dry, if you were pulled over for any reason they would confiscate any alcohol in your car. It's not that dry is it?

Me again...

Has anyone stayed that the Tuskeegee Motel, down the way from Fontana? There # is currently disconnected and I guess will remain that way till the open again, which is mid April. I was just wondering if anyone knows if they are already booked, or a good last minute kind of place.
