Woah to me... we're *gulp* CAMPING (at Fontana)!!! :impatient

I put our names on the waitlist and have crossed my fingers (and will now convert to some western religion such that I may pray in earnest), but have made reservations for a tent-site, just in case. Blargh! I'm a VERY BAD CAMPER! The brew swap will be super important, for personal numbification purposes

So, have we any camping buddies for the weekend... hmmmm...?

Unless it rains -- in which case there is EVERYTHING wrong with camping.

And this time, you are in charge of waterproofing the un-waterproof tent (which is entirely stupid as, in the moderately transposed words of Bill Bryson, the manufacturers of such outdoor gear should have stopped to consider that you might actually want to take said gear OUT OF DOORS.)

But... at least I get to shop for cool weather campy clothes

Those teardrop trailers are so cool; found a set of plans on craig's list, bought them for the beau for Christmas. Let's see if he takes the hint.

Well in case anyone cares Helix is having a rally from Phily to the Dragon on May 3rd. So I am heading from Ohio to Philly, then to the dragon. Woo hoo lots of driving

I can't wait. And as a first timer i know I am to late for reservations at Fontana. Would some one be able to recomend a place to stay that is decent and not to high priced.

Thnaks

You aren't too late -- they have plenty of tent sites left

Seriously, you could put your name on a waitlist and cross your fingers, or you could check out Snooter's dragon page (a link to which is floating around somewhere) and start calling.

But I highly recommend Fontana campsites... more people camping ensures that crazed chainsaw-weilding woodsmen have greater difficulty attempting to slaughter me. Also more people to save me from bears and assorted rabid wildlife.

Definitely not too late. I got a room on the NAM thread last year in March from someone who had a cabin and wanted a roommate. Yes, call and get on wait list, but also keep eyes peeled here, there will be a thread pop up about rooms, read it daily. I stayed at Fontana and it was very nice to be that close to the action.

I was thinking about that..... where did you get reservations? I looked around, but didn't see where I could make reservations.

I just called Fontana and when the woman stopped chuckling in response to my "available rooms" inquiry she volunteered that they had tent sites available.

Campsite is apparently at the base of the damn, approximately 1mi from Fontana Lodge.

Thats right Helix is starting another chapter to the MINICUP saga:

I'm sure he'll have more info when the MOTD forums starts up.

See you at the Dragon

I'm headed to the Dragon Tuesday morning so there's no way I could participate... plus dunno if I'd want to drive up to Philly so I could drive down to NC. Anyhoo, it's a great idea!!

The key is... EVEN though you have a LIST!! you call everyonce in a while, as people cancel their res.. the next guy on the phone will get it!! that is the way it worked for us in 06!! And you know there was a "List " then, and we HAD to have been Bumped to get the room!! Just an idea..
