Umbrella con at the Dry Falls?

I am curious who made off with my admittedly old and somewhat ratty golf umbrella at the Dry Falls on Saturday?

As we were leaving another group of MINIs pulled into the lot and someone hollered out to ask if they could borrow my umbrella. Since we were headed back, I was wearing my rain jacket w/ hood, and I had a spare small umbrella in the car I figured why not help a brutha out? I did however ask if they would be able to bring it by the PittStop MINI Casino Night that evening (since I was working it) to get it back to me - to which they agreed. Now I'm minus one umbrella.

Frankly, it's not that big of a deal - but I was a little irked that someone had the gall to ask to borrow something and I willingly loaned it in the spirit of being one big, happy MINI family - only to wind up feeling taken advantage of.

Live and learn, I guess. It's just too bad that another person in need in the future might have to suffer my second-guessing a gesture of goodwill because of my experience with someone else's inconsiderate ways.

^ That was an awesome move on your part -- and it's a real shame that you're worse off for helping someone out as you did.

Thanks. But upon further reflection, with ALL the activity and excitement, there is the distinct and likely possibility that it was all perfectly innocent. They most likely did have every intention of getting it back to me and just forgot.

I can't even tell you how many things I forgot from one minute to the next!

I agree that it was most likely an innocent accident that you didn't get the umbrella back and not the work of a con artist with a used umbrella fetish.

Maybe Aaron's "dirtbag" didn't want to get his new watch wet.

As in:

and

? Similar to bound and gag?

...but let's go easy. If the umbrella person is out there reading this, despite that first post - I don't want them to feel like I'm a harbinger of ill will. Deep down I really think it was an innocent mistake.

Ah, so you fell for the old "Borrow a MINI owner's umbrella at the dry waterfalls and act like you are going to return it, but actually keep it forever" trick. Gets'em every time.

Darn umbrella bandit!!

You probably won't be, but I'm sure this will make "America's Most Wanted".

We had someone take one of the Tire Rack banners after the banquet and a couple of smaller items turned up missing after the event. I guess last year was the last year of the totally theft free events

We had about 175 custom Dragon Welcome Dinner pens left on the registration dinner table and one minute later they were ALL gone Someone must had come up with a bag and just emptied all the pens into it

I guess they'll pop up on ebay.

BTW, thanks for providing the pens, Barry. I got ONE: a nice purple one.

That's just wrong. Pens, banners, umbrellas and that smokin' watch. At least it wasn't a MINI that swiped.
