Good luck finding something. Last year Fontana wouldn't let us reserve the same cabin until we checked out. This year they changed their minds and let it be booked before checkout so we lost our cabin to someone else. They only have two bedroom non-airconditioned cabins at Fontana as of check out today.

To answer your question. May 1st through the 4th.

Wow that sucks. I guess I lucked out because I got our same cabin reserved for next year when I checked out but next year I will reserve it upon checking in

That's what we did last year but this year they said it was already gone when we asked to reserve it.

What time did you check out? We checked out at 10:30 this morning.

When I left this morning aroud 9, Fontana still had rooms around the pool as well as fireplace rooms...if ya want to spend that much. True, they have the economy cabins and the non a/c ones, but that early in May really is not a necessity for a/c. Now, later in the summer, or in early fall...that's a different story.... They are offering MINI participants next year -20% off the peak season rates, so for a 2 BR cabin without a/c...you'll pay around $80 per night.

We had a Dogwood this time. It was very cheep with 2 couples. No A/C required. It had new stove, fridge, and hot water heater. I'm sure the ants were sorry to see us leave

I changed my booking to 2 Willows for next year. The woman at the desk told me that the cabin we had will be demolished by the time we come back. She seems to think that they were the original units from the 40s

I tried to book it during the Monte Carlo Night but the lady at the desk said they were too busy so I went back up there Sun morn around 8AM Dragon time. The MOTD people numbers have gotten so crazy Fontana needs to work out a booking system & stick with it & I also feel that if you have been booking a cabin for years you should have 1st dibs on it when checking out

The lodge and motel rooms were not available anymore at 10am on Sunday. I too tried to rebook upon checking out to no avail.

I guess I'll be camping, or at roughly $90 a night anyway I might aswell do the 240 mile roundtrip to Chattanooga, unless gas will be $6 a gallon.

Just get on the wait list for a cabin. There will be plenty of cancellations before next year

It was fun to drive up to next year's cabin and take a look. No AC though, but with global warming it'll probably be in the 40's anyway... After two years of snagging Fontana late in the game (thanks everybody) I'm pleased to be in the book.

Now the extra bedroom- Slot car setup or can we get an actual jam session?

Yes. That is how most resorts around the world work. The PittStop group was not able to reserve our 3 cabins again. We were/are pretty steamed. It will be nearly impossible to handle the Monte Carlo night next year without lodging at Fontana. ...but, we'll figure out something... and yes, the chances of cancellations are quite high indeed.

Well I gotta say Fontana is going to have to set a policy in place & enforce it for MOTD as I would have been beyond mad had I not gotten a cabin upon checking out since they told me they were to busy & behind in their work on Saturday night to allow me to book

I made reservations online last night....and they didn't have any record of it.

Luckily, there was a room with a queen bed available for $79.20/night. The only other "room" available was an original 2-bdrm Dogwood (#669) also for $79.20/night.

We stayed in Dogwood #1052 this year, which wasn't too bad but when I said I'd take #669 for next year, she quickly informed me that it was an original Dogwood and compared to #1052, it was very, very rustic & not updated at all.

So...needless to say, I reserved the room with the queen bed!

Reservations are April 30th - May 3rd, checking out on Sunday, May 4th.

I think what annoys me the most is that we were operating under the assumption that (like Fontana told others last year) reservations were not made for the next year until check-out. As such, we never even tried to get set for next year. Then, upon check-out, were we told that the entire Inn/Lodge and 95% of the cabins had been reserved for next year... all within the last week And of course, Fontana doesn't take reservations far enough in advance for us to get a room for MOTD 09

Guess what just arrived in my emailbox?!

An email from Fontana informing me that my online reservations couldn't be accepted because the type of lodging I wanted (lodge room w/two queen beds) wasn't available.

I am GRATEFUL that I checked this thread during lunch and was able to call in & get my reservation!

WOW!!!

I guess I'm REALLY LUCKY to have been able to get the 2nd-to-last available lodging at Fontana Village.

Granted, it's not a non-smoking room, but since I won't be in the room very much it shouldn't (hopefully) be a problem.

Guess I should add "Febreeze plug-in" to my packing list for next year!

Were you able to secure any lodging at Fontana?

Nope. We even looked into splitting a cabin with the Rocket City MINI folks and THEY weren't able to get a cabin big enough for the folks they have

I'll just have to make an effort to call and check at least once a month from now on.
