Not even a remotely valid comparison. Salami will smell REALLY bad before long in the sun, and the meat juices could run down the window and onto the paint. A sticker on glass is a very simple and painless item to remove.

Those will be the ones with the stickers on their cars that read "PLEASE DO NOT APPLY ANY STICKERS TO THIS CAR". :impatient

I would volunteer to bring a bottle of Zaino Z-12 Glass Polish so I can perform my free post-vandalization detailing service, but I'd have to touch someone's car to do it so I guess that wouldn't work. . . .

You guys miss the point, it is not your property, you do not have the right to put anything on it, anywhere. Why should I have to be bothered with getting a hair dryer or anything else to remove something I dont want?
If you want to play sticker tag, then give everyone who signs up on nam to go to the dragon a number, or a sign that they can download, that they can display in their window. When you find a car that has the number or sign displayed, then tag it, but leave the others alone. By placing the sign in the window you would indicate that you are a member of NAM and are also opting in to be tagged, no sign, no tag, no offense.

So now it should be the event organizer's responsibility? Since the organizers didn't have a role in the tagging, why do they need to be responsible for ensuring that those who don't want to get tagged, don't get tagged? They're organizing an event, not babysitting the participants. If somebody feels that strongly about this practice then there's no reason they couldn't make their own sign in 15 seconds in MS Word and print it out... But it shouldn't be the event organizer's responsibility... That goes for any event, not just MOTD.

I attended a miata event years ago where one vendor put fliers under everyone's wipers. I was pissed! It's not like they didn't have a booth - we knew they were there.

Oddly enough, I think the 'tagging' is cool, but respect the thoughts of those who are about it.
Perhaps I'll go next year and start a 'vandalism removal' business. I'll make millions! Millions!

Never said it was the event organizer's responsibility, it is the individuals responsibility to identify himself as one that will accept tagging. Imagine a world where it is your responsibility to put a notice out that you dont want a bumper sticker on your car, you dont want a political sign in your yard, you dont want some one trying the doors on your car to make sure they are locked, you dont want someone to throw a tarp over your car so it doesnt get too hot, you dont want someone checking the pressure in your tires and adjusting it for you. The list would be endless. Just put a sign in your window that says "Tag Me". No sign, no tag. I shouldn't have to put up a sign that says "leave my car alone'. Thats implied in our property rights. More to the point, it should be the responsibility of the tag supplier to identify those who want them or are willing to accept them.

As I said before, get over yourself.

You can posit all the straw man arguments in extremis that you want and it won't change the fact that YOU'RE the one who's not getting it.

You're making much ado about nothing. Let me try to explain it to you:

IT'S A VINYL STICKER ON A CAR WINDOW! BIG FREAKING DEAL!
IT'S NOT A MOUSTACHE ON THE MONA LISA. IT'S A FUN STICKER ON A DURABLE, EASILY CLEANED PART OF A MASS PRODUCED PRODUCT IDENTICAL TO THOUSANDS OF OTHERS. IT WAS DONE IN A SPIRIT OF FUN AND KINSHIP, BOTH OF WHICH SEEM TO BE FOREIGN TO YOU.

Sheesh! I used to have a neighbor who would go out with manicure scissors to clip any tuft of grass that stuck up 1/4" higher than the others after he mowed. You two'd get along fine.

Wow.. long thread and I didn't read it all but I agree that I really do not like people sticking things on my car. My MINI was tagged and of course I'm not having a fit, but I would much rather it not have been done. That car is mine and I decide what goes on it. I like the sticker, but it's white and in a place that I would not want a sticker, so it will be removed and most likely destroyed in the process. My car is dark and all of my stickers are dark and always will be, the white sticks out like a sore thumb.

However, if the sticker was left under my wiper or something, I would have gladly put it somewhere or on something and cherished it. Now it will likely get messed up when I take it off and it will be gone.

Exactly

I didn't go, and don't have any stickers on my Mini, but if I did go, and got tagged (I'd better ) It would be a badge my Mini would display with pride. Don't ruin the spirit of these meets by whining about something that caused no damage, and takes you less time to take off than it did for the person to put on.

Its a nice sticker, done in the spirit of the event, if you don't like it remove it. No harm done..................

So you're going to remove the sticker in a simple and pain-free process, and no harm, no foul, right? So the sticker gets destroyed when you remove it? Fine - then you're right back where you started! Big deal!

Putting it under the wiper would ruin the "surprise" factor, especially since someone else could just take it from your wiper. It just destroys the concept of being "mystery tagged".

The problem with an "opt-in" concept is that all new attendees would miss out on the fun and mystery aspect of this, since most people don't seem to be so upset about it, so I'd wager that most people like the idea, despite a few naysayers.

Look, I'm a fan of the MINI, have been since before there was a NAM. I have a MINI hat that I wear everyday when I drive, I got 4 MINI T-shirts that I wear just about everywhere I go. I would never, ever think that it would be O.K. to put a sticker on your car without you knowing it, I wouldnt lean on your car, I wouldnt put my drink on your spoiler while Im looking for my card to give to you. I understand the stickers were done with good spirit and intentions, got nothing against that. When I go on rallies, I get a big number sign to hang from my mirror that lets people know that I'm part of the event.
But I think, even though it was in good fun, and with good intent, that it was wrong to put stickers on the cars, whether easily removed or not, without the owners knowing that it might happen.

People here on NAM talked about the "mystery tagging" before the event... so it wasn't a foreign concept before MOTD4.

It is a tradition of sorts now... but perhaps next year we will also make sure to announce "be on the lookout for mystery taggers!" in info threads and the printed event guide.

And here I was hoping to get the dragon tag. Maybe next year I will just have to rant & rave that no one better tag my car.

I liked the sticker and I thought it was tastefully placed. Maybe next year!

Thats all that needs to be done. If I get to go next year I'll probably put a sign in the window that says "Tag Me!", but with some of the responses on this thread I'm afraid my car might be covered with stickers, all in good spirit and kinship of course!

I didn't get tagged (unfortantly) I wanted one of the dragon 06 stickers. I didn't have any vinal on the car though and maybe thats why they left me alone, but now I have an "acual size !" on the back glass (bought and applied myself) hopefully that will be enough for them to tag me next year. I just hope they pick a good spot to place it. I'm not a big fan of stickers on the windows but would of loved to have gotten tagged

Weird... wasn't your car parked like three feet from mine? Or maybe I got tagged before you arrived? Or maybe we already had this conversation and my memory is foggy because of all the margaritas and brew swap beers?

I like mine. I think I'll keep it there for a while.

Actually you did when you said "If you want to play sticker tag, then give everyone who signs up on nam to go to the dragon a number, or a sign that they can download" Signing up for the event on NAM was how you registered for the event.

What happened is neither the organizer's problem nor the organizer's fault. While I 100% agree that the person who was responsible for the tagging deserves both the credit and blame for this, do you really think a thread on NAM or a piece in the registration packet will prevent your car from getting tagged in the future?

Better yet what about all those who went down and didn't register for anything?

Maybe you're looking for organized tagging? Well I know those who organized this year's event are reading this thread and I would bet that some of those who will be involved in next year's event are reading as well... Maybe they'll take it under advisement.

However, for those of you who have been so deeply offended by the tagging of your car... Can I have your life? Please? I wish my troubles were so trivial that I could let the application of a vinyl decal applied to a window on my car be such a major event...

So many important things to fret over...
so little time.
I can't believe this thread has smoked along so long.
