The accident rates by car color....

hmmmm. Apparently a white car is more like to be involved in an accident than a silver car. I wonder if Pepper White counts?

Hmm, the study, though "assessed the effect of car colors on the risk of serious injury in over 1,000 Auckland drivers between 1998-99". I'm not sure that it is universally applicable as conditions and other factors probably vary.

That is a useless study. They state that white is most dangerous, and then go on to explain that silver is a light reflective color that makes cars safer by increasing visibility. Since white is also a light reflective color that is highly visible, their reasoning is seriously flawed.

The limited information available on the link above does not state whether this is based on absolute numbers or percentages (I assume they are talking about percentages, otherwise the data is worthless). Possibly, people who buy silver cars are more conservative drivers.

Over 600 people on the road this weekend en route to the Dragon?

Trying to jinx the PWs?

Proving dark silver is the best color? (which it is)

Insinuating that the dragon will claim more PWs?

Just a few of my guesses.

Never assume...however, without knowing, I agress the writeup is worthless.

So where is this article in the British Medical Journal? Others have had this same question.

Colors

If I remember correctly this issue has been studied by the insurance actuaries in the past ,i.e., the *80's and they found that white and red cars had the fewer accidents while dark colors had more.. I will have to rewiew the literature and will re-post accurate data. Daz

Bear's don't care about color

My Chili Red '06 met with a black bear last night on the Skyway. Apparently, he didn't seem to care about the color of my car. I didn't stick around to see if he bled red.

For most car purchases, with MINI an obvious exception, are based on what's on the lot and at what price rather than the color. I've had cars of almost every hue over the past 40 years. My yellow MINI may be the first I actually had a choice in as far as color and that's only because there was nothing for sale at the dealership's lot. I'd have bought puce if it were available with the options I wanted.
