Are we signing up during registration or just showing up?
Last year when we registered and paid ahead of time we were given special priority to be closer to the front. I know George was also on hand to take orders on Thursday during registration.
I would like to do that as well. I will be happy to buy both versions of the pictures framed so that I can be as close to the front as possible. Also I will try and show up early as well but am happy to pay for a spot.
I would like to hear how that is being handled.
thanks and if the answer to the 3rd question is in the thread I don't think I should have to read all 6 pages to find it....

To quote myself:
You need not read through 6 pages, it's all on the 1st post. If it's not on the first post, then you question does not have an answer.
Thanks everyone. For latecomers, all the info is in this first post now...
Weather & info update.
Fri May 5
Scattered T-Storms75°/54°40% 7 Good
Sat May 6
Showers72°/46°40% 7 Good
Fair chance of rain on Friday & Saturday.
That said, we have 600+ people registered, and countless #'s of people unregistered who are going anyways. There have been no pre-registrations due to the last minute organization of this project, so it is pretty much a first come first served free for all. The photographer will be accepting orders at Fontana village, as early as Thursday evening from what I understand.
There is a potential for a LOT of cars. A LOT OF MINIS!!! There may not be room for everyone, so this is going to make coordinating a bit of a hassle as well. Be kind to your guides and row captains, and allow adequate time to show up and line up. Volunteers will be on site at 11:30am, and everyone else should start arriving about 11:45. We should have everyone lined up by 12:45, and pending no rain interruption during that time frame, we should have the pic done by 1. The longer it takes, the higher the chance we can encounter rain.
If it is raining at 11am with no signs of letting up, we will defer to Saturday, and run the same drill.
And boo on you guys for not catching my South Park reference. As mentioned before, will give this thread 1 good bump tomorrow, and then it's off to the Dragon for me during the wee hours of Thursday morn...
BTW, those '7=good' numbers after the forcast is with regards to 'outdoor activity forcast' by weather.com. If that's right, despite the call for rain, we should still have a good photo opportunity.

I'm sure we will Twister, I shouldn't be hard to find.

The photographer is going to show earlier and mark the field with flour to designate the spots/rows.
Thanks everyone. For latecomers, all the info is in this first post now... I will bump this thread once once on Wednesday for a final FYI for everyone who looks at the last minute.

THE PIC WENT AWESOME!
We had a few less cars than last year, mostly because it didn't make the schedule because of the last minute planning, but everything went off without a hitch!
For those who want to order the picture from this year or last year, contact george at http://atlantapanorama.com.

I wish i would have known that the picture actually was going to happen... I saw you guys setting up from the top of the damn while having some lunch and didn't have time to drive down... I'll post the pics later.

All the info was in the first post of this thread about a week before the picture... It was also announced again at the welcome dinner. Unfortunately due to the late coordination, it didn't make it onto the 'official' schedule of events, but I figured everyone who's read this thread would know.
Anyway, the photographer needs the MOTD logo... I'm going to start digging through threads to find the original (I assume Cooperation did it, he usually does
) and get permission from the owner to put it on the panoramic pic. If anyone knows, a point of contact or linky would be welcome. No worries Paulr, it was a good time. I had hoped for more Mini's, but such is the result of late planning and it not being on the schedule...
Already done... Thanks, logo is sent.

From the photographer:
If anyone questions how come the cars are just a little bit smaller in the front than last year, it is because I was told that your group would be so much larger than last year. I made allowance for this difference in the amount of cars to be in the picture in the formation. I was surprised to see such a low turn out where we were not filling up the area anywhere as much as I had marked the field off for. I had marked the field off for 8 rows of cars and your group really just had about 2 1/2 rows there total. I could not change the physical layout when all of the Minis had shown up because they were already lined up and it was set in stone. Also I was in a race against the rain....which of course did come right on time! There are many different factors that will enter in to how the picture is laid out and how the cars will look in the picture. This is how come I ask so many questions before hand trying to get the correct information to use for the planning and layout. These things are not "snapshots" , but planned out and take hours to layout.
I do have another idea for the layout marking and parking of cars that I will be using on my next shoot to see if it can even go better. Your people parking the cars did a really first class job on parking everyone. Please thank them for me! I wanted to thank each one personally, but it was so hecktic there I was not able to see them. I did get all radios back no problem.
Thanks,
George
