Anyone driving from CA to MotD 2006?
I am planning on making the long trek from CA to the MotD, and wanted to know if there were any individuals and/or groups/clubs making the drive as well. I was thinking of heading out around April 30th/May 1st, so I can hook up with a fellow MINI owner/friend from Pittsburgh, PA before heading down to Fontana.
Also, it would be great if I/we could meet up with fellow MotD travelers heading east along the way. Get a nice size MINI caravan motoring along. Let me know. Thanks.

Bumping to see if there any CA MINIs now that we're getting closer to MotD 2006. Also noticed that someone near Denver, CO added themselves to the Frapper map for the event, and I was wondering what day the caravan gathers up there for the trek to St. Loius and beyond.

The Great Denver to KC to StL to Dragon Caravan
leaves Denver on Tuesday evening, after work. About 4 hrs or so to Hays, KS and picking up Zyamfier from NE along the way. On to KC on Wednesday (BBQ lunch with KC MINIacs) then to StL for the evening (actually, we go all the way east of StL to Illinois). Thursday AM early headed south thru Memhis to the Dragon, eta 4 pm on Thursday. Return Sunday AM headed approximately the same route BUT OTHER ROUTES WILL BE CONSIDERED JUST FOR VARIETY...
Of course, we are subject to change. Please let us know what would work for you.

Jonathan, Thanks for the Denver caravan details. That helps determine when I head out from Northern California. I will be joining the caravan on Tuesday night, and I will contact you for further details on the meeting place location and time. This will definitely make the drive east more enjoyable. I am still interested in seeing if there are any other NorCal MINI owners making the trek out, and join the fun that will be MotD 2006. Let me know.

Well, not until I get to the Southeast, near Yucca and sndwave, who I will motor with to NC.
Hello Radinator
30 days later...our plans have have not changed. Still leaving here Tuesday after work / early evening headed East, probably to Hays, KS. Zyamfier will meet us the next day just after NOON in KC, as will the KC Miniacs. Then on for the evening to StL and meetup that evening with Doug from StL. Early the next AM on with the other StL folks all the way to the Dragon. Midday stop in Nashville for lunch, then the last leg. Arrive approx. 4 pm... from StL.
Please stay tuned.

Shipping my MINI all or part way
I really want to bring my MINI, and while I did the cross country drive when I bought my MINI, I'm not sure I feel up to doing it both ways. Plus the possibility of getting a speeding ticket is greater. LOL.
I'm considering the possibility of having my MINI shipped, or if it's cheaper, having it shipped half way, and driving the rest. I spent around $1,000 not to mention my $400 windshield, in gas, food, entertainment, and lodging on my 11 day roadtrip when I brought my MINI back from Memphis, TN and that was a one way trip.
If I can find a company to ship it to Texas for $300 to $400, it might be worth it.
Anyone done this, or considered it?

All the MINI dealers use a shipper
and that is how they get them back and forth. They would know.
If it were me, I would call the MINI dealer in KC or StL as Clo suggested, offer to 'rent' a used one - something that has been on the lot a while - for a few hundred. Saves time, energy, money and wear and tear. Maybe they will take a few $$ for it.
And yes, then you can join the great Denver to KC to StL to Dragon caravan.....
