Anyone else think that their Mini might look like this on the way down to The Dragon! This is 17 cases of beer in a 2003 Mini. There was reportidly room for one of two more cases on the front passenger seat too!

All I know is that there will be a lot of beer in a dry county come the first weekend in May.

Have you heard that they do serve beer down there now and they sell it at the gas station? I imagine the selection is limited..."We have BOTH kinds of beer....Bud AND Bud Light!"

No I hadn't heard about that. Don't think we'll need to stock up there though.

INFORMATION UPDATE

The T-Shirt details have been finalized. I will be handling the process. What I need from one of you wonderful guys (or gals) is someone who can create a very basic webpage with the picture of the shirt and the links to the shopping cart where it can be paid for. I have the code for the shopping cart. I suck at web page stuff. If you have a website already you could just add a page for this. It would be greatly appreciated.

This process will involve advanced payment for the shirts. This will be a limited edition run. If you don't order one in advance you will not be able to get one later unless you buy it second hand from someone who ordered one. This is not to make these a hot ticket but rather to ensure no SNAFUS with people getting their shirts. It also ensures I won't get stuck holding the bill by ordering extra shirts. The price, design and distribution specifics will be posted very shortly in a new thread and will link to the webpage mentioned above.

On a non t-shirt topic, I have spoken with the organizers of the event and I'm working out when we'll do this. Right now I foresee two choices. Either late Friday afternoon, say 3pm to 5pm or late Friday like 8:30pm to 10:30pm. This would put us either right before or right after the chili cook off. Either way time would be left to either get to the cook off on time or get to the brew swap on time. We could also do it Saturday but I think this fits nicely around the chili cook off. The location will, hopefully, be the Recreation Room in Fontana Village. That is being worked out right now, as is the process by which this event will run. It isn't going to be some rigid structure that will be boring and fun deprived. But likewise it isn't going to be an unorganized chaotic mess either. I'm seeking input on a process as I write this.

This should really turn out to be a fun event for all and I am very much looking forward to meeting you all and drinking your beer.

Matt

P.S. PM or email me if you can do the webpage thing. matthewrohrbach@gmail.com

Matt, just a friendly bit of advice - if you leave your email on that post, you will soon be inundated with SPAM. Spiders and bots will find it and assault you quickly!

I don't know what night the Midnight run is planned, but let's not have it too close to that! (For obvious reasons.) Otherwise, later sounds better IMHO.

What happened to Thursday evening? I know you said something about some people not getting there then but you're never going to be able to please everybody anyway. Stick to Thursday and there will be plenty of beer around all weekend anyway don't you think? Just my opinion. I'm there either way.

Gmail has the best email filter I have ever seen. Only time I have gotten junk mail in my inbox was when a german worm went across the web. And I have already posted it online all over the place and still only get maybe 5 emails a week in the spam folder. I'm good, thanks for looking out though.

I don't think they've said yet if the Midnight Run is Friday or Saturday. Regardless I don't expect anyone to be intoxicated at the end of this event from the sampling. So if anyone does get intoxicated it would be from drinking full beers and I hope they would have thought it through and they'd not need to leave Fontana for awhile. We will be keeping an eye on people to make sure no one gets behind the wheel if they've had too much to drink. If the format I am choosing is deemed a good idea they'll be a decent stretch of time between the end of the sampling period and the end of the event. You'll see.

Thursday evening was the initial thought but then quite a few people informed me they won't be arriving till Friday. And while I am not trying to please everyone I would still like to accomodate as many as possible. An as I said I think this is a great pre-cursor or follow up to the Chili Cook Off. Still plenty of time Friday and Saturday to enjoy the beers. Not to mention I know I'll be bringing a lot home to sample at my leisure.

But please don't think I'm shooting you all down. Keep posting ideas, suggestions, tips, and what not.

I was the coordinator for a beer swap/tasting at a National Miata event in St Louis last year. I'd be glad to help you with the event or offer some tips on how we did it. I'll be arriving early in the week so no problem for me with the date Just let me know

Lois

My vote would be for after the Chili Cook Off. Seams more apropriate as a night event than an afternoon event plus, everyone can stock up for a fun Friday night. Also, not sure if the Chili Cook Off will be at Fontana again, but last I heard it wasn't. If the tasting was before the cook off, some people would be having to drive after the beer tasting. Even if it is only a small amout, none is better than a little, especially on the Dragon!

I imagine some of that chili will have us breathing FIRE - maybe it would be good to cool down with some beer afterwads!

...beans & beer. The village will certainly be rumbling!

We're planning on the Brew Swap to come after the Chili Cook Off. The Cook Off will be at Tapoco Lodge. We'll leave time for people to get from there to the Brew Swap. Vast majority of participants should be staying in Fontana so those folks can get lit up if they wish. Some of us, like myself, are staying near Robbinsville so no lighting it up for us.

No one stepped up for the website help but that's ok. I created one this morning. Working out the last paypal thing and then I'll post it.

I'd like to take a minute to ease the concerns of some and to clarify this event to others.

This is not going to be a college style kegger party where loads of people will be getting intoxicated and causing a fuss. We expect each and every one of the Beer Swap participants to behave in a respectful manner and to know their limits when it comes to alcohol consumption.

As is the case anytime we go out drinking with friends or family we will need to keep an eye on each other to make sure no one does anything stupid. Stupid has a wide range of definition in this case the most important being getting behind the wheel.

MOTD is a family affair and we want everyone to know that this event will not hinder that atmosphere. I am positive that this is going to be a few dozen people, milling around the recreation room discussing and sampling some of the best beer from around the country.

The pic was for comparison to show how much we can fit in a mini. Nothing more!! Wasn't implying in any way it was going to be a college Kegger and It doesn’t sound like anyone thought that unless I missed something. I'm sure everyone here knows their limit when it comes to consuming alcohol. I also don't think it's anyone's intentions to get intoxicated at this event but with so many beers it may be hard to do so and hopefully no one will let anyone drink and drive. I'm sure were all smarter than that.

Let me echo the last two previous posts. We are all grown ups here and everyone of us expects the other to act as such. This being said I an't wait to try some of these yummy beers I have never heard of!

PassatDoTd, I will get back to you sometime this week about your email. Sorry for the delay.

Though it is a dry county, both Tapoco Lodge and Fontana Village have the rights to sell beer, wine and spirits so it’s not as dry as you may think.

The Midnight Run is on Saturday, as always.

Regardless of your intent for the picture/post, Collin, it never the less raised the concerns of some people who are planning to attend the Dragon. Whether you think it is irrelevant to the topic of this thread doesn't matter. Perception is 9/10 of the law. Not to mention if the picture wasn't relevant than you should have kept it out of the thread.

Your post was not the only one in this long thread that may give the wrong impression. I know of at least two of mine that could do the same thing. This is why I said I wanted to ease the concerns of some and clarify for others. I didn't call anyone out nor was my post hostile. So you can save your annoyed emails for a better cause.

That's the end of this discussion.

Can I put in a request for some Sam Adams Black Lager? Can't ever seem to find that type of Sam Adams here in Jax.

I'll add it to the request list. 2 months prior to the event I'll be posting the list of who's bringing what and what we have requested but not fulfilled. Hopefully someone can take care of the Black Lager for ya.

I plan on being at the Beer Swap, and will bring along a few flavors from a local brewing company in Louisville, Blue Grass Brewing.
