I’m unfortunately at a complete loss. Successfully installed the US UJ lights in a 2016 Cooper. Did all the coding and it worked for over a year.
Car went in for a CEL and they flashed the code. Reset the programming. Not a problem. Got home reprogrammed as before and now I’m getting a lighting system error when brakes are applied ONLY when the car is moving above 5mph. In addition to the error, the brights briefly flash.
I’ve looked at BFD which shouldn’t be on in US and tried various settings as that seemed to make sense why the error doesn’t appear when the car is in park to no avail. But now that I know it flashes the brights when this happens I’m even more confused.
Any thoughts?
Edit: I had a chance to walk through the settings. It looks like Bremsl_1_output default changed and I had to set that to off from bl_x. Validated everything else. That setting was apparently throwing the error and the error was making the high beams flash.
One last issue to debug now. When the Hazards are on IF you turn on a blinker the blinker overrides the hazard on the dashboard and exterior lighting. The hazard button remains flashing. If you turn the blinker off, the hazards return to flashing both lights. Not a big issue as very rare condition but will be trying to fix it.
how do I get my lights to lite up when I turn my light on.
I’ve kinda got part of my signal light working and half a break light.
the Union Jack doesn’t light up at all.
im new to BimmerCode and could use some serious help please.
First wanted to thank DunkM for the coding guide. I wanted to add that there is a need to add these to the Initial Coding, or you will see flickers even when there is no code thrown.
BFD_x_IS_LED - aktiv
BFD_x_KALTUEBERWACHUNG - nicht_aktiv
BFD_R_WARMUEBERWACHUNG - nicht_aktiv
Also the comment about MAPPING_BREMSL_2_x_OUTPUT was kind of hard to understand... can someone amend / confirm the right values for:
US Halogen to US UJ
US Halogen to Europe UJ
I assume if one has US LED to begin with, you don't need to worry about updating MAPPING_BLINKEN_2_H_x_OUTPUT nor MAPPING_BREMSL_2_x_OUTPUT?

Reason: Added 1 coding attribute
Im having the same problem, did you figure out a solution?

I’m in Canada and have a ‘22 F56 base model LCI2 that came with OEM Union Jack tail lights and I’m trying to install the European/UK Union Jack tail lights (with amber turn signals). I can install them but I can’t get them to use the horizontal part of the light. I don’t get any errors at any point in the process, even without any coding.
The result I'm seeing is just the vertical light being used for the turn signal and brake light. The UK lights basically behave like the US lights, just without the horizontal bar. (I've attached videos below.)
The wiring harness has six wires for the connector so I didn't re-pin anything. Should I still re-pin something? What am I missing?

I'm wondering the same thing. My LCI1 F57 came with the UJ lights, but I've desperately wanted to install the European/UK lights with the amber turn signals since I got the car in May 2018. I won't spend the money on them, however, until I know I can get them working as intended since they aren't exactly inexpensive.
Possibly. I went through Bimmercode trying to program them for my 2022 and cant get the amber turn signals to work. I did all the things mentioned in the posts above. My next step is to find a Pinout of the taillight harness and start testing wires with a multimeter.
So we do not overlook the obvious, did you get the Europe instead of the US version? Only the Europe version shows Amber.

I did not buy OEM tailights I bought aftermarket ones but yes they have the separate Amber turn signal like the European version. I cant imagine the wiring inside is different. Im sure they based it off the same design so the plug would match up.
Get the aftermarket lights that do not need any programming. Problem solved.
Sorry, not problem solved. These cars nowadays are smart, programming is almost always required. In my case it might even be a wiring issue cause the 2022 with the factory UJ lights only has 1 wire that sends the brake and turn indicator signal, and the computer tells it the difference.

Aftermarket tail lights work perfect on my 2019 Mini Cooper Convertible. No programming - plug & play. I have also seen them on 2021 Mini Coopers with no issues as well. Not sure about a 2023 though.
All those taillights we have the info on as we work with the main supplier, watch those reseller on EBAY and amazon as they don know MINIs and mix up models/what they work with and for.

Did your 2019 F57 come with the UJ tail lights from the factory? And if so, to clarify, you installed the pictured aftermarket lights and they function properly (i.e., separate turn signal, brake light is the thin vertical inner piece, and the Union Jack is the running light)?

Are you saying there are ones that work for LCI and different ones that work for non-LCI? It seems to be an issue with those cars that came with Union Jack taillights from the factory like my 2022 F56.
Some of them are and some that are sold have a harness that piggybacks so they can work on both. I dont know what ebay/amazon reseller's sells as they don't like to show actual pictures.
Most those sellers copy our pictures on ebay and amazon. My R58 JCW and R52 MINI Convertible are all over ebay and amazon as copied cars and then they overlay the pictures of what they are selling. Once they get turned in for copying our pictures another one pops up. lol

yeah Ive seen that, bad photoshop of the product on a car instead of actual pictures of it installed.

The taillights are such an essential part that I had no hesitation to pay more for OEM. For the UJ I also coded it to always stay on like the front DRL. Consider you can sell your old taillight on eBay for $100 or more, just get the factory light.

Can you please confirm which one works for both, pre UJ and post UJ tail lights? From my digging on your site, Helix was the only one clearly stated to work on both tail lights without coding.

Well at first my main interest was in getting the separate Amber turn signal but I also love the way the smoked clear tails look, over the all red factory lights.
