FWIW, when we were down in October, the Dragon was very full of leaf watchers(will not be a problem in May), so a few friends and I took a ride down thru Robbinsville and got on the Cherohala (SP) Skyway, It is up through the mountains up to 6000' , beautiful drive, not as tight or crowded as the dragon, lots of scenic overlooks for pictures, and at the end there is a side road that takes you back to "somename" waterfalls, again another great pix place. Then we continued west to Telico Plains, and found a really neat restaurant I believe it was called the Bistro, which is right on the River and had a great outdoor riverside lunch. then on west and took a shortcut back to the beginning west end of the Dragon. I guess it would be about 1/2 day with lunch, depending on how many pix breaks we took, not that many miles. Anyway, if it is of interest, I would be happy to arrange the tour. if enuff interest, we can pull this off to a separate topic and have the event planners tell us which day it would be the best to do it??

The trip sounds like an awesome time!
The URL above has been corrected. I should have this event up and operational in the Event planner later tonight. As soon as it goes up I'll lock this thread after posting to redirect everyone to the planner. Thanks

I called mom and told her about this drive, she got real excited! She said her and dad went to Tellico on their honeymoon
and really enjoyed it. I was afraid to ask any more about it, the too much information thing going on
! But she did say it was a wonderful place and she would love to go back.
So I guess that means we are in too!

Now, THAT is one beautiful drive!! I did it last Fall during Fall of the Dragon II. With me, it was a chance encounter and not a planned one like Minzilla's. The Fall colors were out of this world, and the drive itself has many stop off points for pics, as well as sweeping curves. I'd recommend this drive to ANYONE...and, that's just WHY I WANNA DO IT AGAIN!!!!!

My pleasure, Clo, it should be quite a showing as there are so far about 70 cars signed up, not sure how many people that represents, but only about 40 signed up for lunch??
Thanks to You guys that started something three years ago, when someone said hey there's some twisty roads down in Tenn, let's take the MINI's down and take a look! Hooda thunk in only three short years there may be 300 MINIs down there this year.

Jason started it all with a few posts on Roadfly and MINI2! He'd gone Dragon-slaying on his motorcycle and thought it would be fun to get a "few" MINIs up there, too! He got a Yahoo email list going, and that's how the first Dragon Meet was organized in 2003.
It was totally loose and free-wheeling (pun intended). Smokey4 organized a trip to the Biltmore, ATL Minis had a Welcome BBQ, and the tradition began!
There is SO much to see and do in that area that it will take years to experience it all, I'm sure!

OK, I just spoke with Frankie at the Bistro, she is excited to see us getting signed up, but she needs a couple of weeks to plan with the final numbers, So we need to have a cut off date for lunch registration of APRIL 15, It looks like the way we are going there will be 100+ cars, and they need to know how many people and meals to prepare, so get signed up, and I will ask Mark to put a cut off date in place
Thanks
I kow you will enjoy this drive and lunch:smile:
