Thanks guys! 8+/- hours, boy that's a whole day. Guess I could have used Mapquest too, but I'm lazy and I suck at geography.... at least that's my excuse.

Room Update!!!!

Ok, folks....I am SO happy to hear that you are registering for your Fontana room. So, here's the latest and the greatest from my contact at the Fontana.

Room Type Sold Out:
Willows (the one bedroom cottage)

Room Type nearly Sold Out:
Laurels: Only 4 left.
Inn Rooms: Only 38 left

Everything else is "wide open" (meaning that they still have space -- but would you like to be stuck with a 3 bedroom 2 bath cabin, when you are by yourself or a couple? Hmmm....space is nice....but call now and get the cabin you want!!

For those of you campers amoung us, Fontana has a complete campground and what they call: "camper cabins" -- in case you wish to have a more rustic experience.

So, call now! I might also add, that the Fontana has told me that never before have they had the response from any of the groups that come through that we provide them. In other words, no group has booked so much of the property so early in the HISTORY of the Fontana!! So, let's keep it up!

Hugs,
PB

Just checking in..

I'm just checking in so I'll get updates on this thread. I'm really looking forward to the Dragon. I hope I can also go to Fall of the Dragon in October.
As a sad aside note , a crazy woman backed into my MINI about 2 weeks ago. It's driveable, and the damage isn't too bad, but I was crushed none the less... Hopefully everything will be back to perfection soon.

A couple other things worth asking about... according to their website, Fontana Village now has a BOAT HOUSE for rent... a little pricey, but might be worth it for someone wanting a lot of privacy and adventure.

Also, not to sound like a nervous nelly but... pack some bug spray. It's crazy with spiders there.

I saw the info about the House Boats. I think it would be an awesome time. Alas, I do not know enough people to fill one. I'm officially booking a room this weekend. Graduation is the weekend before so (fingers crossed) there's nothing that can stop me from going.

The "Party Cabin" is one of the Azaleas on Welch road.

--->imavunderbrah - are you reserving an Inn room, or staying in a cabin with the Michgan Contingent?

Too bad that link has nothing to do with the area, or even the time that we are going to be down there...

Honestly, this whole spider thing is being blown WAY out of proportion. It's been made to sound that the entire place is OVERUN with spiders. There are spiders EVERYWHERE, and honestly I didn't see anymore spiders down there when we were there in May, and again in July than I do here in Virginia.

I don't particularly like spiders myself, however I didn't see a whole heck of a lot of them both times I was there.

Definately a Cabin... From what I've heard, they're the place to be  I'm trying for one of the 2 bedroom ones before they're all sold out. Right now I just want a guarenteed place to stay - I'll work on filling it later. Provided theres room for one extra car, I'll be caravaning down there with you guys

Alright, this is getting out of hand. But I can still say the rumors are not even close in size to the physical See the spider Normalizer saw last year? They get stuck under my MOM's fingernails all the time, quite annoying.

Hey! Fontana Village is in the Smoky Mountains....it's not an urban place. It is surrounded by woods, forests, and rivers, which beat that HUGE spider sculpture installation all to hell! LOL!!! AND....in July, I saw my first ever lightning bugs there!!! It's like going away to camp for grown-ups! (Well, some of us are grown-ups, tee hee!) Besides, if it weren't where it is, that road wouldn't be so dad-gum awesome!

 Not sad at all! Thrilling for me! We don't have 'em in Los Angeles, tee hee! Say, if you bottle them up, won't they die? Waaaahh! Now THAT would be sad!

For a while, a group studying the phosphorescent (sp?) qualities of the lightning bug was paying folks to collect them.... so much a pound. It seemed like a lot of catching for little money. I was also worried about decimating the population.

Couple of interesting facts

It is only the male whose butt lights up The females lurk in the grass waiting to take their pick. I like the sound of that.

And also, there are a very few places in the world, one of them in the Elkmont area of the TN Smokies where for a period of time during the summer the lightning bugs flash in sequence together. I keep meaning to go see that and never getting around to it.

Back to the regularly scheduled thread now??

we'll just bottle them up in your MINI for the "Midnight Run"
any that are left over can ride with you back to LA
