Sunroof mechanics randomly broken

So my car is 2017 with less than 35k miles on the clock.
Last Friday I took the car onto the freeway and closed the sunroof...'clunk'. So, I opened it fully and then attempted to close it, but now it won't shut.

Took it to my Mini service center and I get stung with a bill of almost $3000 just to replace the sunroof mechanics which is apparently broken! I simply can't justify paying that amount. Notes, this is the second 'major repair' sting I've got with a car I'd expect to not have the issues it does. Of course, this all happens after the warranty runs out (surprise, surprise).

I thought Mini's came a long way but the repair costs/unreliability has made me doubt and regret ever buying it.

Has anyone got any suggestions please?

Don't take your mini to the dealer. They firehosed me every time with high $ quotes to maybe fix the problem. Find an independent mechanic.

Thanks for the input. I'm struggling to find any independent shops who'll do this. One said he doesn't even want to touch it as there are complexities with the F60 he doesn't want to take the liability on...
