F60 Active Sound Design
Active Sound Design
I can't seem to find much discussion for ASD with regards to F60 Countrymans.
Is this just no longer an "issue" or was it eliminated for them?
Or course I could be wrong and it's everywhere...but either way, is there any influence on engine performance or this strictly in-cabin sound?

Is there a reason to turn it off though? It's just an auditory thing....no effect on the way the car runs...
Sure.
Less noise in the cabin.
Your speakers aren't being asked to play your audio and the prerecorded engine sounds simultaneously.
Better ability to hear real car/engine/road noises properly.
If it's important to you to have this sound, may I suggest just making VROOM VROOOOM sounds with your mouth? It's more fun, and just as realistic as ASD. ;-)

Thank you...
When we first got our JCW Clubman I thought the added sound was kind of cool, but it eventually got old, especially because I always drive in Sport Mode where it's louder. After a road trip where the back seat passengers had trouble hearing us in the front seat, I turned it off. The JCW exhaust is loud enough without extra sound.
And the sound is 100% pre-recorded, that wasn't an exaggeration.

Ok, it's synthesized in real time vs recorded. Either way, it's imaginary.
And there's a part of me that likes it! The first time we started the Clubman, I was like whoa that sounds good! So if you enjoy it, keep it.

Back to this old thread - I have the 2018 Hybrid Countryman SE - I can't determine if this thing has ASD. Bimmercode won't work because I had head unit coded for ApplePlay by someone else, so it's not showing as codeable and therefore Bimmercode won't tell me if I have it. I want it *off* because I'm adding an aftermarket amp. I heard there is an ASD component in the back left (USA driver side) and maybe I could just remove that thing and have those sound wires go to my amp and not ASD?
Given it's a hybrid, we want silence in electric mode, so maybe they wised up and didn't include it in the Hybrids. No mention of it in the on-board owners manual lookup.
Any gurus out there have any idea?

I think it's Bavsound that has one, or the other OEM speaker upgrade company. Like $85 but ASD is gone and ecus all still talk properly to each other avoiding CELs.
