F60 2017 Countryman S ALL4 illuminated piano black trim question
2017 Countryman S ALL4 illuminated piano black trim question
Hey guys
We recently picked up a 17' F60 with the illuminated piano black trim on it for my fiancé.
Unfortunately, at some point, someone used an abrasive sponge or cloth on the piano black and left swirl marks all over it. Very superficial faint scratching that catches the light in certain ways and triggers my OCD. Does anyone know of any product that can be used to polish it back to its original lustre? Similar issue on the instrument panel (Tach/speed) on the steering rack.
I was wondering about Poly-Watch acrylic polish.
Cheers

Honestly, some Meguiars scratch x, compound and polish should do it (or whatever brand you choose). You may want to tape off the areas you don’t want to clean and follow the instructions to take down a micro layer, round out the edges of the scratches so they are less apparent and add back some gloss. You’d can even throw some wax back on top. I did it to my roof box and it shines nicely. If you can feel the scratch with your nail, don’t expect it to go away completely.
for the tach, headlight polish should do the trick. I read that toothpaste also works. I haven’t tackled mine but do appreciate your ocd.

That’s nice!
the stripes are probably IML (In-mould label) or if you can feel them it is a surface texture to create the contrast.
If it’s IML, you’re ok to try polishing. Just go light pressure, by hand and start with an inconspicuous area that’s out of your line of sight, like nest the passenger vent. If you want to be extra safe start with a compound before you go to something more abrasive like a scratch remover. Use a clean towel, should work perfectly.
if it’s textured, that’s harder. If you distribute the uniformity of the texture it will bother you way more…
