Rough Idle Problem

Looking for advice: I have a 2018 JCW F60 Countryman. I have an NM Engineering power module installed on the low setting. Recently the car runs fine but idles rough. I replaced the plugs with OEM, new air filter and added Techron fuel system cleaner. No improvement. Any ideas on what the issue might be?

is it worth it to take the power module out of the equation in case it’s having effect? I think it’s easy to do that.

Hi minor1000,

I already tried that. No change. One of my Bimmer coding friends said this is a relatively common problem that happens when you change fuel. I started putting in 89 octane (thanks to high gas prices) and now I think that was a bad idea. Switching back to 93 octane. He said that the solution is to "reset adaptation on DME" which is a code update. I need to explore that, but first I may run two full tanks of 93 and see if that clears up the problem.

I hope you post back when it’s fixed. i’m really curious to know. i have a 2019 ALL4 S, not a JCW, but with an official JCW tuning kit, fwiw, but anyway, i recently ran 2 tanks of 89. one by accident and one on purpose. i never heard any pinging and the car an great. i assumed that it did all of the timing adjustments on-the-fly, so it will be interesting to see if a reset fixes it if the gas doesn’t. it would be nice to see real-time ignition timing while driving just to know what’s going on.
