Tint that Sunroof?

As summertime is rapidly approaching I am in the process of setting up an appointment for window tinting on my new JCW Countryman. The driver and passenger side door windows will for sure be tinted to closer match the back window tints but I am also thinking about having them do a lighter tint on the sunroof panes just to keep the cabin cooler during the hot months.

Has anyone else gone this route? If so, how dark did you go on the tint?

We've always tinted the glass roofs (scion tC, elantra gt n-line) with the most heat reflecting film the shop has available at the time. Usually a 20% mirror (then) or ceramic (now). Don't go too dark or you can't see out at night, if that would be an issue to you. Makes a huge difference in comfort

My 2011 has tinted sunroof glass and it makes a difference in cabin comfort.

Thank you, this was the advice I was looking for. I've done ceramic on my last couple of vehicles but they have all had completely opaque sunroof shades that allowed no light in while closed so I've never tinted a sunroof before. The Mini is the first car I've had that still allows some light and heat in even when the shade is closed but I definitely don't want to go too dark and black it out. I like having the option of opening the shade to let some additional light in, especially in the Fall and Winter months.

I have an appointment set at my preferred tint shop on the 21st of this month and they said they were well familiar with doing sunroofs. Thanks again!

My plan is to do 35% ceramic on the sunroof. Just need to talk my tint shop into doing it. They said, "typically, we don't do sunroofs because you can close them off from the inside." Strange that they don't want the business? It is an awkward angle, but, really?

I did both sunroofs in a light tint with heat rejecting Ultra Nano IR film with 98% rejection in all shades for $100 more. All the shades offer a the same 98% IR rejection and I put 100% transmission on the windshield .and my Escort detector works fine. On a 95F sunny day last week I parked next to another Countryman with dark tint on all windows, moonroof and a 6in band across the top of the windshield and my car was 20F cooler. closing them off from the inside doesn't keep the heat out, only light. maybe they aren't skilled enough to do it, who knows.

Yes, people don't realize how big a piece of glass the windshield is. Maybe a bit less in a mini with it's steep rake, but it does make a big difference in overall IR transmission.
