Oil change in April -- should I be concerned?

New one on me -- does this engine have any history of burning oil?

oil,

Hmmmm, depends, how many miles since then? I guess it hasn't left any oil spots in your driveway or where you regularly park it ?
You went ahead and added a quart? there is Mobil 1, Valvoline, Castrol & Pennzoil 0W-20 at 'China-mart', you can use in a pinch, all are synthetic. Especially if the Mini or BMW dealer is closed and you can't get that Mini Original Engine Oil 0W-20, which exorbitantly high.
Don't run it low is the most important thing, Maybe have it checked to see if the sensors are working correctly.
Does the engine sound the same? no clatter or unusual noises ? That display in the dash should display oil pressure , oil temp & Oil Level. If the computer reads it, they should have created a display for it and allowed us to choose each item monitored by the computer. That annoys me,
I hope you car is okay and nothing is hurt,

No dipstick? My co-pilot's '15 R60 has one and she checks it often. Bad things like low oil shouldn't sneak up on you like that.

That message is from the electronic dipstick. You can use it to check the oil level at any time though if you wish to see what level it is at.

I wish to physically see my oil level weekly, not just for level but color/condition that is important as well. Electronics won't tell you if there's a bit of water or other such misery showing up. I've an idea the OP would have discovered his low oil level situation long before it got critical otherwise..

If you go into iDrive and check it at periodic points in time, you could have seen it going down in level. It's no different the physically checking the level with a dipstick. Check the bottom of the oil cap if you really want to check for color and condition. At that point you'll also want to yank the plugs and check them.

I question the accuracy of the electronic dipstick. After putting in one quart it reads nearly max.

Yeah, mad chase around town to find Mobile 1 0W-20, put in a quart and it seemed to be satisfied. No off sounds or behavior that I could diagnose, even in stealthy green mode. Thanks!

I'd be really worried if a quart didn't fill it to the max when it was already reading it was at the minimum level.

I'd be concerned that you have a leak or the oil change wasn't done correctly and you were shorted oil. Either one is troublesome. I'd take it to the dealer instead of just letting it go that it needed a quart of oil. Neither of my F series MINIs needed a drop of oil between changes.
