Black and Grey vs. Black and White

I'm trying to buy the Black and Grey checkered sunroof decal for my F60 sunroof. I ordered part 51142355187 from the dealer and picked it up. When I opened the package, it looked like it was Black and White part 51142355186. I brought it back to the dealer, and they seemed to agree maybe it was mislabeled/mispackaged. I get a call 3 days later saying that the original one I received is the Black and Grey, but it looks White. He went on to explain that the white is actually clear, and looks Grey when it is up against the black of the sunroof glass.

I'm feeling like this is B.S., but I could be wrong. Anyone here know if it is actually grey or transparent as the dealer is explaining? I'm tempted to order from someone else to see if there is indeed a real difference; an actual grey. I don't believe that transparent will make it look grey.

Just looked at the decal again in-person. They might actually be right!? Time will tell when I go to install it...

I was wrong...

Turns out they were mostly right...the black I saw was actually the grey. What I thought was clear, was actually the absence of any decal material. The grey squares are spaced out. Totally a wet application method for this. I am happy with it though.

For anyone interested...

Outside. Black is glass, grey is the decal peices.

From the inside.

How do you like having that blocking part of your sunroof?

Love it. Way too much sun without it.

Plus it now matches my JCW Pro mirror caps and the side scuttles red/checker motif. Cosmetics matter a little sometimes.

I agree, the sun certainly can be extremely bright through this sunroof. How was the install?

Pretty straightforward. You have to do the wet method for best results. I can't imagine doing this dry. I watched a few YouTube videos and used RapidTac cleaning/adhesive prep, an installed it with RapidTac application fluid and one of those felt squeegees for applying vinyl wraps.

Took about an hour I think. Didn't really time it. But I took my time because I wanted to do it right the first time. And I'm and a bit OCD about these things.
