1st leg of the Canada trip complete, in Nashua now

Used the battery to drive 20 miles to the highway, then used the engine on the highway cruise at 65mph. I made sure the engine was not charging the battery, and had 19% battery left when I got on the highway.

Once in Nashua, I went back on battery and drove 2 miles to the destination. Across the street is a Volvo dealer with chargers, so I put the car there now and its recharging the HVB.

Trip stats from the app below. The range with my wife's driving started out at 271 miles, and by the time I got to Nashua it rose to 279 (even though I burned about 32 miles of gas). I'll attach a third picture I took in my driveway before embarking on the trip.

Neat I have never played with that and checked out those screens.

I always flip to PWR save when I hit the highway and let her recharge, I thought it only charged when I was going down hill our backed off the the throttle or used the brakes to slow down.

HI MI:

Actually if you choose save battery mode its dragging the rear wheels all the time and charging the battery until it gets up to 90-92%. Not very efficient you're netting low MPG with the ICE the whole time you're doing this.

So now we arrived to the hotel in Brunswick. Stopped for dinner on the way, no more charging since Nashua. I peaked at around 66 mpg and dropped back to 46.3 for the whole trip today. I ended up driving 182 miles and still have 183 miles left in the tank. Better than expected

Now I got the car plugged into the hotel outlet charging at reduced rate should be ready by 8am or there abouts. Tomorrow we are in this area no big road trips just around town and such.

Around the area today

Drove around bath and brunswick today, went to Popham beach and back. The car did "OK" but not so good on gas only going on rolling hills sort of roads from the beach back up to town. The battery ran out as I didn't recharge except when back in Brunswick for a few minutes to make it back to the hotel while going to the supermarket.

Ended up driving about 70 miles, 25 of that on battery I remember looking at the app screen and seeing that while in Popham beach at the restaurant but I didn't take a picture and it wiped out that trip only shows a trip from the grocery store to the hotel now.

Tomorrow on to New Brunswick, Canada. Will drive to Bangor, recharge there while having lunch and then go the rest of the way to the final destination. I did reset the mi/kwh today when I first started out at the numbers don't make any sense when you mix in the engine but at the end of the day some engine is mixed in already so its not realistic (on battery only usually you can't get more than 5 miles per kwh).

So I am in NB now, got here a couple of days ago. Filled the tank in the US just before crossing the border. I got there with a new total of about 43mpg on the whole trip.

Total I drove to Edmundston and some past to the Quebec line and back. Its about a 57 mile trip. I used the battery on the flats and downhills, and used the engine for the uphills. I managed 58.8 mpg on the way there and almost 61.9mpg on the way back using an entire battery charge each way. Attached is a picture of the last trip back to Grand falls area now.

I think this is the most efficient way to use the battery with this car. The App says I drove 32 miles on battery since last charge.

Pictures from the car

I just went out to the car to get the whole trip net average MPG and also I found the on-board computer trip (last trip) which seems to disagree with the App. The App says 61.9mpg as seen above, the on-board computer says 60mpg. I wonder which is right?

Sipping some fuel!

Made it all the way into Canada for 5 days and back out to about 53 miles from Bangor before stopping to get fuel with 1/8th of a tank left. I got a ding ding from the car saying 49 miles range warning.

We filled up 8.47 gallons until the fuel was sitting in the neck (to the top) and once powered up the car showed 344 miles range on gas. By the time I took the picture it had dropped by a mile but on the highway it rose as much as 351 before falling back down.

Anyone else with the SE countryman get into the 300 club? So far I'm just over 1000 miles for this trip and averaging 46.1 mpg.

Ok the trip is complete. Will have to go get some gas tomorrow. Made it from Medway, ME all the way back home to MA on the same tank of gas...

Got an interesting message from the car this evening shortly before getting home. Some warning about not passing cars because the fuel is low and with that the engine may not provide all the power it usually does. REALLY? I always thought gas was good the the last drop same power the first drop as the last drop, but apparently its almost like a "battery" telling me the fuel is low and don't try to pass with low gas you won't make it. Quite interesting I have to say!

Today's trip from Brunswick ME net 44.1 mpg, the whole trip was 45.6 mpg for 1336 miles. Man is it still hot outside, 11pm at night and its over 80!!

Good to be home,

My wife says too much detail

Its like silence of the lambs around here, sorry maybe I should shut up, too much information probably nobody cares about it, just go fast and drive that's all that counts
