UGH! I found a partially eaten acorn with lots of shavings around the oil fill cap.
I just happened to open my hood - and discovered it.
Looks like my JCW will have to sit outside of the garage until I can find the little bugger and his stash. :(

Got those little sucker at my property. Have 2 trailers and they love the wiring for some reason. Had to put metal piping throughout the trailer and the wires threw it. Now they leave me alone.
Not sure how you'll get rid of them unless you poison some nuts and leave them near the car. When they want to serve havoc .. they can get to extremely high levels of havoc.
Good Luck !
OH: my cousin is a Snow Bird and when he got home in the spring, he found a family got into the attic and the damage was amazing. He said worst then a professional wrecking crew could do.

We had squirrels make a nest on our second story elevated deck one year. I destroyed it before they moved in permanently and sprayed the deck with anti-squirrel spray you can get at home depot. Smells like pepermint. Them come by once in a while and i go out on the attack. I'm sure it's the same one or two because he will stand his ground a bit at first. Had the sucker jump all the way down two stories onto cement in a crashing fall a couple weeks ago when I went after him. Haven't seen him since. I don't like em. I'd buy that anti-squirrel spray and get it into anywhere and everywhere you think they may be coming in. Keep spraying daily. Buy a lot of it.
I cleaned five gallons of nuts from the Vee of my F350 Powerstroke diesel. No other damage. I always check the oil before I drive anywhere, it's a good thing I did, it could have started a fire.
I got a live trap and caught five squirrels over a week of setting the trap, I took them about five miles away, they haven't been back.

When we use to park the AS here, I put mothballs on the ground under it to discourage hanging around.
Those kept mice, squirrels & chipmunks away. I didn't like the mothballs, but I disliked the rodentia worse.
We don't keep the AS here at the house anymore, its at storage facility.
I have chipmunks around here more than anything. They leave small paw prints on the wheels in the brake dust.
Back last summer, I had a crazy chipmunk run into me when I was putting a new steering stabilizer on the 'old Jeep' ! I was laying on the driveway, under the Jeep and he came barreling out of the flowerbed, hit me on the side and went back, top speed. 'Nut'
I read on another message board that someone in New Hampshire had an 'Owl' under the hood of their car recently.
Its good practice to check under the hood regularly,
have a good one

Wow crazy stories and thanks for the remedies! I am under the hood quite a bit, thankfully. I will try the moth ***** and see what Home Depot has.

--- Years ago when I worked at a BMW dealership in the city, I worked next to a tech that opened the hood on an older Seven Series BMW, only to find a large Raccoon running across the top of the engine and ducking into a small space next to the Washer Tank.
We tried everything to coax it out of the car, and finally had to call Animal Control from the City. That was ONE NOISY Raccoon once it was hauled out of the car, very upset.
But even it pales in comparison to a Tech that worked at a Volkswagen Dealership in the area. He was taking the dash apart on a small Volkswagen, maybe a Rabbit, and found a large snake inside the dash....

The owner of the car admitted it was theirs and that they had LOST IT... Tech went home for the day and was hard to coax back to work....
Mothballs, parking in a garage... But they seem to want to hide under the hood when it gets cold.

I worked in a shop where we had a customer who complained of a "noise" under the hood.
It turned out to be a baby possum who had set up residence in the space just behind the driver's side front wheel well, just in front of the door. We chased it out with compressed air. The boss put it in a box of rags where it passed out, as possums are wont to do.
He took it home and let it go in the woods behind his house.

For the last few years auto makers have been making wire coverings with some sort of SOY (read this somewhere but can't recall) protein as it is much cheaper and lighter (CAFE standards) and the critters LOVE the taste. WHAT?
