Rear Tail Light Removal

I did a search and didn't see a dedicated thread on this yet.
Has anyone removed the rear tail lights yet? Any DIY's?
I have the OEM black rings I am installing in the place of the chrome ones and it looks like the easiest way to get them off on the rear is to remove the tail lights.

Negative. It's easier to do it without removing the taillights. It's actually scary how easy they are to remove without taking out the lights.

Tell me more!
Just pop em out with a trim removal tool? Any technique or angle works well?

I did it over a month ago, so my mind isn't that fresh, but I remember using a flat head screwdriver with hockey tape (haha that's all I had laying around) or you can use duct tape on the head of the driver. (just to protect the plastic) then basically just pry around the corners. It just pops right off. Look at the new rings and locate where the tabs are.

Not my video and not an F60, but same idea.

I wouldn't use a regular screwdriver though. I used one of those plastic trim removal wedges. Start on the outside edge (top and bottom), then one that's free, move to the inner edge (top and bottom). Then replace with the nice snazzy black ones. :-D

Just use a plastic trim removal tool and a lot of elbow grease! It's pretty scary removing the trim.

I didn't bother trying not to break the stock chrome crap. Do the first one and learn what is needed for removal. The second one is easier. If I ever sell it, the new owner gets the black ones that are on it.

Thanks all! I'll be getting the new ones Friday. I saw them in person at the dealership and was sold. Look much better. Fronts looks super easy once hood is up.

Fronts were harder but more straight-forward.

Ok so it was much easier than I thought. Front popped out easily then clipped back in even easier. Rears were a bit more work (not really) to get out - I used a trim removal tool... getting the new ones on was a tad bit more involved than the rears (not really). All in took 15 minutes.

Thanks all for the pointers.

Looks WAAAAY better.

Looks good !

Yeah it really looks good Mr. Funk ! That black trim ring makes the headlight stand out. With the white hood, it reminds me of the little dog on the 'Little Rascals' .
He had the 'ring as well.

Looks good !
Best regards,

Hey Everyone,

I finally got the time to dip my rear light trim. I created a short reference video for those who want to do the same.
