A first time Mini owner here as well. I should be picking up my '09 AB/AB with aero kit today or tomorrow. And you know what that means? Painted fenders... =D

 

Just came from my MA; thought I would give anyone a heads up about the Astro Black; MINI is going to stop production on it in December this year. And replace it with a Midnight Black starting production when the Astro ends.

 

give us some more details, what exactly is 'midnight black'? I was told before that it would be jet black , non metalic which would be more of a piano black look.

 

Its a metallic, but its really dark. I've got the German 2009 brochure, it almost looks like a metallic piano black. Are the U.S brochures out yet?

 

Picked it up today. =) Clocked in about 140 miles, and only one stop from the highway patrol. Got off with just a warning.

 

Wow...that's some pretty fast work on getting the highway patrol's attention. You may have set a record!

 

I was stopped 13 miles from the dealer on pickup day... warning... :D

Also saw the AB Sidewalk cabrio at the dealer this week - VERY nice, I could live in those seats...

 

I never drove the turbo prior to driving it off the lot. Been around the track in a few SC'ed R53's. And it has been since 91 or 92 since I've had a turbo (90 AWD Talon). Lots of fun. Very easy to drive.

The changes to the 09 speedo - where it goes up to 160, I don't like. At 12 o'clock, my speedo is at 80mph, in the 08's, with a top speed of 150, the 12 o'clock mark is at 70mph, and that is a bit more conservative.

Black out that beltline! Scotch 33+ electrical tape works great, gives a sinister, lowered look to the R56... and costs ~ $3.50.

 

No!!! I cant!!! And I cant stop staring at it long enought after I drove it!

4BOOGIE what did you use to black out the belt line, gas cap etc...?

 

I used Plasti-Dip on the gas cap, door handles, and headlight rings. The beltline kit I got from outmotoring.com

 

Just got my own AB clubbie yesterday afternoon. Thanks to all of you for making me spend $$! Now it's my turn to give back.
