I was totally prepared to order Pepper White and while I was at the dealership they were delivering an Astro Blk MINI and I fell in love. It's the most beautiful color (or colors) as it looks like deep blue, purple and black depending upon how the light hits it. If I could have a MINI in every color I'd be really happy, but for now if I'm buying just one, I'll stick with the AB. Sir William Wentworth is currently cruising on the high seas and is due into port next Monday.

 

I had a similar situation, though my choices were either blue or red. which dealer did you buy from. Mine's from Otto's and pickup hopefully is this weekend, fingers crossed

Bought it from Princeton MINI. I'm thinking that I'll be able to pick it up next weekend. I'm not sure how long it takes to unload and get it from the dock to the dealer and then detailed. Do you have any idea? You must be pretty excited if you're getting it this weekend.

 

Well, it takes about 2 days at the vdc, as long as there is no back logs, I'm not sure how long it takes to get to the dealer but I was told to have to wait 2 days for prepping, but I'm getting RoadBlock clear bra put on so it could add some time to that based on the 3rd party installers schedule.

My MA told me Friday or Saturday but forgot about the Roadblock so it may be next week for me, she said shell still try for fri or sat.

My MINI got off the boat on thurs, and I checked yesterday on miniusa owners lounge and it said estimated delivery(arrival at Otto's) 8/7/08. Today the estimated delivery is 8/5/08, so I'd assume its at Otto's as we speak, even though OL says my MINI is still at the VDC, go figure

 

OL is very behind with their status. Mine finally changed today to en route when in essence it started its journey last Friday. So what's the deal with the clear bra? I see a lot of people talking about it and haven't heard of it.

 

there are a few brands, but Otto's uses this:

its basically a clear polyurethane material that goes on the front end of your car, think of the clear text book covers back in highschool, but this is actually clear and can be washed and evidently can be barely noticed.

do a search for clear bra on this forum and youll get some opinions. I figured it'd be smart since south east pa has some pretty crappy roads and didn't want rocks to ding up my paint

 

I love the astro black, i was torn between the BRG/aB and AB/AB and on my way to place my order i saw a AB/AB MC at the gas statuion so i pulled in to take a look(my deal didn't have either color in stock). The guy that owned it was very nice and let me look the whole car over. That sealed the deal. I love the fact that it looks kinda blue at some parts of the day, plus you don't see this color much. Last night a saw a BRG/AB and it did look cool. But AB won me over with my 08 MCS

I have heard rumors that that they will dicontinuing the AB in 09. but i have seen 09 JCW in AB. One was picked up the same day i picked mine up. Has anyone heard this as well? Part of me would love to have it canceled becasue that would make it rare, but it's such a nice color.

 

I just checked out the configurator and it's showing that AB is still available on the 09s. I was kind of hoping that it would have been discontinued for purely selfish reasons. The funny thing is that I haven't seen any ABs on the road at all

Well that makes me VERY happy. Again, for purely selfish reasons. I bet if more dealerships had the AB available for people to see in person, a lot more people would have ordered them. It's the only reason that I bought that color. Three other people purchased AB the same day that I did because there was one right outside the showroom door that was ready for delivery. The car basically sold itself. I guess the MA's have a great job!

 

No kidding! They're gorgeous! I keep hearing people say, "Are you crazy buying a black car?" Well...it's not exactly black. I don't care if I have to detail it every single day...it's beautiful!!!

I've had black cars in the past and currently have a white SUV (which my MINI will be replacing). I swore I would never get a black car again but this is SO different. It's almost like a metallic eggplant color. And as far as detailing, since it's so small, it'll be a breeze to take car of.

 

Yep, it should be a breeze. My Z3 is super fast to detail as well. I hate my hubby's SUV...takes forever! So how do you think the AB will look with the black and white checkered mirrors and checkered sunroof I ordered? Will it be black enough do ya think?

 

I think it will look great and will still have plenty of black. Very sporty! Do you think that you'll be on this site as much once you get your MINI? I'm finding it a bit addicting but can't help myself.

Good to hear...I've only seen one AB and it didn't have the checks on it. As for being on this site...yes, most likely. I just mentioned in another post that I'm a little OCD with this car. There's just something about the MINIs. I'm sure I'll be on the site often because there is a wealth of info here...and some great people.
