Cracked speedometer glass

I have a 2012 Countryman and the center glass on the speedometer (the big glass) just started cracking all by itself. Anyone else have this problem? I've read that I need to replace the whole unit (not just the glass). Is that correct?

The plastic cover just snaps on, but I don't of any vendor that sells just the lense.

Well, that's possible too (I've done it), but you'll need a laser cutter.

BTW, it's plastic not glass.

Thanks for that rabbit hole -- I scrolled through their eBay store for quite a while...

FES used to make really nice
replacement gauge covers with
anti-reflective coating (had them
for my old R50) but I think they’re
now out of business.

Too bad.

It was a NAM member who “invented” them and sold them to FES. Luckily for NAM, the member is still active and posts a lot of useful information.

Yep, most people just swap it from another used unit. MINI never sold just the plastic lens. I have dug through outside the etk and never found them. Only about 90% of the items are on realoem, the others are not.
