I'm blaming the dog but it's really no one's fault but mine. When I backed out of the garage this evening, unbeknownst to me, something had apparently stopped the garage door from going all the way up. I think the dog probably tripped the sensor passing under the door before it was fully open. I was probably fussing with the radio and didn't notice the opener light flashing to let me know that something had tripped the sensor. Check the rear view. Good. Put in reverse, start to slowly back out..
MINI: "SQUKREEEEEEEE!!!!!
Me: "What the F¥£k was that!?"
Wife standing outside the car: "STOP, Pull front, Pull front!"
Me thinking I'd run over something the kids might have left behind my car:
"What did I hit?"
Wife: "The garage door"
Me: "Mother F@&!€r"
Glad the kids weren't in earshot to hear dad's blue streak.

I pounded the door back into shape with a 2x4, it's going to need a new bottom panel and some work on one of the tracks, but it does open and close with some noise.

Damage to the car is fortunately limited to the spoiler and cosmetic but I want to get it fixed. New spoiler can be had for $218, but that's primed.

Does anyone sell the spoiler already painted gloss black (piano black?)

Pretty sure the R56 and Countryman spoiler are the same. Can anyone confirm?

Also if anyone has instructions on removing the interior hatch panel, at least as much as I need to to get to the bolts I need to remove the spoiler, I'd really appreciate some guidance.

Are there adhesives involved or is the R60 spoiler a bolt on?

I think my options are:
1. Buy a primed spoiler and fasteners from ECS or others, have a local body shop paint it.
2. Have the damaged spoiler filled, sanded, and painted by a local body shop.
3. Look to buy a used spoiler in good condition.
3a. Looks like the R60 Countryman JCW spoiler may fit R60 Countryman S. Anybody know?

We've done the same thing here. I've learned that garage door has to be opened from the wall switch and never from inside the car. In our case the sunlight was triggering the sensors. My dog was not involved!

Same thing happened to my wife...although it was Explorer vs garage door...the door lost =(

 

I've stopped blaming the dog. I've let her out through that same door many times and reconfirmed last night that when she sneaks under the still-opening door, it does not trigger the door to stop rising. For this incident, I did raise the door from the driver's seat with the remote instead of with the wall switch. I almost always use the wall switch. I certainly will from now on. Still not sure what I want to do about a repair/replace. I have a neighbor who owns a body shop. I know he does good work. Maybe I'll pay him a visit.

 

Probably your best solution. And I thought the R60 wing was the same for S and JCW.

 

 

I talked to my neighbor who runs an auto body shop. I know he does great work because a few years back I had him paint a gas tank and panels off an '82 Suzuki GS for me. That, and he's always busy, a good sign for any such business. I removed the spoiler and dropped it off on 6/11. On 6/13 i left the rest of my car with him to have him try to paintlessly remove a small dent for me. I don't have either back yet. I told him to take his tiime as I'm not in a rush and he gave me a good price (cheaper than I could find used online painted, and much cheaper than buying a new primed one and still needing to be painted). I'll post pics after I get it back and installed. Wish I had taken before pics of the dent.

Since he's a friend, and I took the spoiler off for him, and I left the car with him for over a week to work on the dent and paint the spoiler as he had time around other jobs, I think he gave me a very good deal. $2oo to repair and paint the spoiler and to work the dent out. I can't say what you might have to pay someone where you live.

 

I always back into my garage since both my wife and I have backed into other cars (not in the Mini) in the driveway before. She also knocked a mirror off backing out (blamed me for being in the car). It's harder to run into things if you see them when you're pulling up to the house. Another bonus is more room since I back up and my drivers side is in the middle and I can park closer to the wall without worrying about opening the door. No help now I know, but something to think about! Nice looking dog!

 

You can't see it in the pic above, but I have a work bench that runs the length of the right wall in my (the MINI's) bay. It's so tight that I have to pull straight in, otherwise I'd have to crawl over the gear shift and exit/enter through the passenger door. No thanks. I'll just have to be more careful. I'm convinced now that I must have tapped the remote opener button before the door was fully open. I just couldn't see the bottom of it in the rear view. I will always now use the wall button to open the door and check that it's all the way up before I get in the car. Live and learn. Thanks, yes. Best rescue dog ever.

 

You're not alone. I just did the same thing only on the front. Scraped the top windscreen panel cover and destroyed the antenna mount. If I live long enough I may be able to laugh about this many years from now.
