R60 Noise from stereo when getting in
Noise from stereo when getting in
When I get into the car (2013 Countryman S All4) and before I press the start button, there is a cracking/hissing noise coming from the stereo (Harmon/Nav/Connected).
Has anyone else noticed this? Should I take it in for warranty work or is this just normal as you get in?
Thanks.

Somewhat common. . .I hear it every once and a while.

Yup. Hear it in mine - R60 S with the H/K system. I also hear it if I turn the car off and sit and wait for the radio to turn off. It will have that faint hiss like speakers are turned up but there is no input to actually hear. That goes away after a few more minutes.
A lot of things on the car seem to run whenever they want - fuel pump pressurizing, engine fan, aux cooling pump, stereo, etc.

Does this only happen when the doors have been shut for a while, with no one in the car and no key in the ignition? I think you may be hearing certain relays and electrical items "waking up". I've noticed it on both our '13 and the '12 we had before it, which both were equipped with HK/Nav/Connected as yours is. Do the noises sort of sound like the mechanical noises you might hear when a CD or DVD player is loading? I think it may be perfectly normal.
But if the noise is actually coming from the speakers, that's something very different.

Actually I'm able to hear it in our car too, but only if I put my ear right up to the speaker in the driver's door. I have to say that there's not a chance I would have noticed it had I not read about it here, but it's definitely there. Interesting.
Mine does it too. And after I turn the car off. Noticed the other night when I was driving with the stereo off that I could faintly heat it then too. Only on the passenger side for me. I also notice that when I'm on the phone certain levels of a person's voice will makes those speakers sound staticy. I will be going in for service on the 23rd and I'm gonna have them check it out.
