R60 AutoX like a BOSS?
AutoX like a BOSS?
Hey there,
I've had a 2012 MCS for some time. Tracked it, AutoX'd it, and totally LOVED IT! We had to sell her for various reasons.
Now we're looking for a lightly used CMS4. I'd like to slap on some KWV2 co's, better brakes, and a tune and get fun!
Who here has tracked and/or AutoX'd their CM and loved it!?
How does it behave?
Since my MCS didn't have the LSD, the one-wheel-spinning-blues plagued me regularly. How does the ALL4 fare on the course?
Also looking for the AutoBox due to all the weirdness with the 6mt.
All feedback and stories welcomed!
Motor on,

I don't yet have a Countryman (have a JCW on order) so I don't have any first hand experience with it. I have seen video of people tearing it up in CMS-4s on the Dragon so I'm sure they can probably handle an AutoX course fairly competently. Interestingly, though, it doesn't look like they are allowed to compete in Stock class under current SCCA rules. Have you poked around in the Solo forums a little bit? This thread had some good info:

I did autocross in my CM last year at MINIs in the Mountains and it was a blast! It has a lot more body roll, but the AWD helps out a lot. I did pretty well in the stock class--5th of 19. Only suspension mod at the time was a front strut brace.
I tried to do a Solo event a couple months ago, and they told me the CM isn't allowed to participate. I was pretty bummed. With some coilovers, it would do really well, but it still is way over the height/width ratio requirement.

It looks like the CM does have some push. Perhaps with the right c/o setup that could be neutralized.
Thanks for the share.

I was under the impression it could run in SCCA Solo II but just not in Stock class. Is that incorrect?

I thought this car could compete in Street Touring class:

I ran my ALL4 with Sport Suspension, stock 17" all seasons, last year in a non-SCCA, non-competitive practice autocross and it did fine. An experienced suspension mechanic/racer observed my runs and commented on how well it looked. The car understeers moderately, has light roll, and has minimal wheel spin, as you would expect with an AWD system that supplies the rear wheels with up to 50% of available torque. Steering in slaloms is excellent (Sport Mode).
The car is marginally high in measured height to average track ratio, so is not currently allowed to run in SCCA Stock category. If MINI would supply the actual Center of Gravity spec then the car would probably be classified in Stock, as most of the heavy parts are mounted low in the car (like AWD drivetrain). Even if the roof rails were not included it might also make it. I suspect the Paceman might be eligible.
To run in an SCCA non-stock category you would need to lower the car an inch or two to meet the spec.
