Thanks! I've had that exhaust for about a year now and it will never get old!
Gotta scare your sister a little bit right? She claims she screamed my name because she wanted to get back in the car as she was cold... I still think she was scared
nemo left 9" of wet heavy snow here in kenosha wisconsin
i went out on a 500 foot x 1/2 mile empty unplowed ramp at the airport
the only way i could get my all4 to drift or spin like that was with the DSC/DTC off
with DSC on, the all4 just went where i pointed it
with DTC on, i could slide a little but mostly the all4 still maintained traction and went where i pointed it
i am running 205/7R16 studless snow and ice tires
what tires are you running and what DSC/DTC setting?
scott
That's exactly how the settings should work! In this video I had DSC off completely... As I always do in slippery conditions just because it's fun to slide / drift around.
For tires I have Continental DWS all-seasons (225/40ZR19)... Pretty good all around tire, but not so good if you like to push the car in the dry. I'll be getting a set of summer performance tires and using these in the winter so I can still have a bit more of a performance tire than a snow tire in the winter.
after the all4, i took my 97 gmc sonoma 4x4 v6 5speed out on the same ramp
the sonoma has 235/75R15 AT on/off road all-season lugged tires
there is no comparison, the all4 is far better than the p/u truck
the only thing with the mini is the ground clearance, at 9" of snow, i was pushing 3-4 inches of snow with the body while the p/u body was clear of the snow
the foglights, brake ducts and lower grill of the all4 were completely packed with snow but even with the snowplow effect, the all4 was unstoppable in 9" of wet heavt snow
DSC off ,now it makes sense , all I kept thinking is how the hell is that thing sooo sideways. I was out playing in the snow with mine and was amazed as to how straight it went no matter what I did.

DSC kills all the fun... Plus sometimes when I'm pushing the car on a mountain road it intervenes too much... I like to be in control of the car, not it in control of itself... I usually just keep the car in DTC (Traction mode) when I'm pushing it... It allows just enough slip that it normally won't cut in, and when it does, it's not as severe as DSC fully on. But on snow or ice - Turn it all off and have a huge grin on your face!
Your car looks and sounds awesome! Love actually hearing the turbo sounds. The exhaust sounds like a v8 to me. Are you sure there isn't a BMW v8 in there
Glad I read all the posts as I too was beginning to think that if the countryman behaved like that in the snow all the time, I would have to stick with a subaru for safety reasons, but now seeing that you had it all turned off, I see you were showing the fun side. Looked like a lot of fun and sounded awesome!

a couple weeks ago, we had freezing rain storm
i was able to get out on a 500' x 1/2 mile empty, ice covered ramp at the airport ... and i mean ice-covered, could have had a hockey game on the ramp
i do have studless snow and ice winter tires installed
with DSC enabled, i could not get the cms all4 to spin or otherwise lose control, even at speeds of 40+ mph and was able to make turns at absolutley rediculous speeds, the DSC light was on alot but the all4 felt very stable at all times
in DTC mode, the all4 will get loose, i never lost control or spun out, but i did not always go where i wanted without a lot more driver action compared to DSC mode
with DSC and DTC both off, it was now down to the AWD/winter tires and me ... i did spin out a couple times, but the tires work much better than i would have thought ... after a little time, i was able to turn just like the road rallye cars do, wheels spinning, back-end hanging way out, front wheels crossed ... great fun and very eye-opening just how well the all4 handles the ice without the computer assist
the stopping ability of the winter tires is amazing, though the ABS was working overtime
after i got done with the all4, i took my 1997 gmc sonoma 4x4 extended cab v6 5-speed with AT style all-season tires out on the ramp ... it was almost undrivable ... anything over 15 mph and i was out of control, any steering wheel movement resulted in a spin and a full stop from 15 mph took over a hundred feet, even with the ABS assisting!
the sonoma is very good on snow (no as good as the all4!), but on the ice was useless
my buddy took his 2004 FWD buick park avenue with all-season tires out on the ramp ... it was undrivable ... he went about 50 feet, turned around and came back ... that took about 4 or 5 minutes ... i thought i was going to have to tow him off the ramp

Scott - That makes me feel MUCH better about my Countryman vs Subaru decision. The snow/ice has been a major concern of mine. I feel much better about it after reading your write-up. I'm really jealous about your opportunity to test it all out and have that much fun! Thanks for writing this up for all of us!

last week, nemo left 9" of wet heavy snow here enroute to the east coast
my cms all4 blasted thru the 9" of snow like it was not there, even though i was plowing about 4 inches of snow with the body
it handles corners and stopping even better than on the ice
the p/u truck works great in these conditions too, the body did not even touch the snow, but the front and rear differentials did just touch, the p/u has a lot more ground clearance
I can also attest that the CM All4 with snow tires does really well in the snow. I don't know if Murphy is riding in my boot but I seem to have bad timing and have driven it through the Sierras during snow storms about a dozen times so far this season. Last Thursday was a mix of everything. Rain in lower elevations, then pea sized hail, then snow flying sideways due to wind for about 70 miles. CalTrans was checking for chains and was controlling the number of semis they were letting through.
The CM is really stable through packed snow as well as the fresh stuff. The winter tires help provide good traction and control when needing to slow it down. Absolutely fantastic vehicle for plowing through the typical 50 to 70 miles in the nasty stuff when we get a storm.
