Top Ten uses for that particular part:

10. Spot to hide that pesky owners manual
9. Hot Wheels car storage
8. Place where everything you lose ends up
7. Extra small spare tire storage for your child's tricycle
6. Smuggler's Cove
5. Emergency Red Bull storage for when you are stuck in traffic
4. Sardine can survival kit ($500 add-on)
3. CB radio mount
2. Portal to Narnia
1. To get people to come into the dealership and ask "what's this for" so they can charge you $150 for a "consultation."

I found that space by accident in the drive-thru one day when I dropped my credit card. There actually was a hot wheels car down there left by the previous owner. I got two cars for the price of one :-)

When we took delivery on our first CM, the dealer pointed this out to us. They said it was a great place to hide stuff from parking valets, etc. because no one would ever think to look there. And it's in an exceptionally well hidden position especially when the seat height is adjusted all the way down.

And I thought I was being sneaky storing my radar detector in the armrest

The cord is probably for heated seats. The indentures are for the Mini Mobility kit. Also it's where everything ends up that gets dropped.

Which specific part are you referring to? A lot of different parts are visible in your photo.

Maybe I should take a look there for my good sunglasses that have been MIA for 2 weeks... Time to clean the car!

Nothing is missing. It's "purpose", as stated above, is for the Mobility Kit. (which does not come from the factory)
