Question Why black wheels?

Sadly, I've actually consumed the entire Countryman Photos thread. Burp.

It strikes me that easily 90% of the CMs have black wheels. Any thoughts on why? Is it a fad or is it Mini CM culture?

I chose black because they wouldn't show brake dust.

Ditto Aleclee. 3 MINIs, 3 sets of chrome (silver) burst wheels = gallons of Meguiars wheel cleaner.

I personally think they look nice with the Countryman in particular, since this particular style car has black plastic trim around the entire lower portion of the car.

I have never liked the look of black wheels, old man...old school I guess.
I will continue to use "gallons" of wheel cleaner as the silver seems to still look
Right to me

I was suprised my new MCS wheels (silver) stay so clean.....Mini has improved brake dusting alot. I still want black wheels. I think the black wheels make the MCS & other Mini's look not quite as 'cute'. Stripes help make it look not as cute too.

Actually, I think they improved the finish of the newer wheels because my wife's CM wheels are a dream to keep cleaned compared to the Delta Spokes on my '06 Cooper

not all of us have black wheels!

brake dust is a non-issue on my 03/2012 build ... mini must have changed pad compounds

my wheels after 3 weeks / 1000 miles without a wash

rear wheel

front wheel

MINI has in fact changed the brakes to address the brake dust issues... That being said after 7 years of scrubbing brake dust on two MINIs, the Countryman will be getting the Anthracite wheels regardless... Plus, I like the look of the Anthracite wheels...

For those who prefer the white or silver wheels - there's nothing wrong with them either. They look quite good too...

Over time your shock wheels will have black deposits on them that won't come off. Ive had an 07 justa and an 07 S that did this. I plastidipped my wheels so when I sell it they'll look brand new!!

Black wheels look more aggressive in general. Bling attracts attention (when driving fast) and lack of bling blends into the darkness. Non metallic or flat paint jobs with blackout chrome looks very aggressive like a burglar or a sniper.

I like them on mine because they seem to fit the color combo well on my MINI. I am still a sucker for a sparkly set of chrome wheels on other cars. Just depends on taste, I guess.

I just thought the wheels with a black roof looked better on mine. Silver wheels would blend in for me.

Plus Minis are unique. Why not have a non-standard wheel color?

To me the black wheels work on any MINI with black top and mirrors. I don't think I would have opted for black wheels if I had the white top and mirror caps. It's kinda like matching your belt to your shoes.

To me when you have the black roof with the black wheels it accentuates that bulldogs look. It really looks better. That's just my opinion. I'm not speaking for anyone else.

It is very common for MINI owners to plasti dip (rubber plastisol paint) wheels black. If you don't like it then peal it off. It is pure fun with out making a commitment.

+1 on the Pdip. I bought some used silver OEM wheels for my winters and was not happy with the way they looked with my white/black combo. Plasti solved my problem and it was a fun and easy project. From a few feet away, you can't tell that there not the anthracites.

I think the black wheels make this MINI stand out, and yes it is a fad not just with MINI. Take a look at many other company's also offering black wheels. MINI might be in the forefront of this new look but it sure is catching on. Ford, Chrysler, Subaru, and many others are right with MINI rolling these out (pun intended). Just like chrome had it's run black is back.

I plan on doing this to my silver wheels. I tried to find someone to do a swap with me but no dice. Once the weather gets warmer i will dip them.

You're right. Hard to find good OEM black wheels unless you go with refurbs. I dipped mine when it was pretty cold in the garage. It was 40 F or below. First time I had dipped. It wasn't going great until I put the cans in the house in some warm water between coats. This is key if you are going to spray them in the cold.

When considering my CM4, I walked around the dealership lot - the anthracite wheels looked exactly like brake dust - done!

When I first started seeing cars with black wheels I thought they had 4 spare tires on the car. Some did have 4 spare tires on the car. The countryman look ok with black wheels, but I like the silver with silver wheel look
