What is This?

When we picked up the 2013 CMSA4 that BMW replaced our defective 2012 with, this (see the attached picture) came taped to a piece of paper (I can't read German) in a plastic bag that contained all the interior accessories (such as the sunglass order for the rail, cupholder, Iphone mount, etc.).

Anyone know what it is? This item did not come with our 2012 (or at least was not given to us).

Thanks.

That, my friend, is a snorfblat. Or is it a dingle hopper? I can't remember.

Based on my GF's limited knowledge of German, she thought it might be a tool to remove an antenna, but it does not seem to fit the roof antenna. It seems to be some sort of a spring.

Do your wheels have a covered center cap with a few small holes in it?

That is a darn good guess, and I knew it looked familiar because our Porsche 911 has something very similar. But I just went out in the garage and looked at the mini and it does not have the hole to stick to tool in, or at least I am not seeing it. We have the optional five spoke 18 inch wheels.

My 2003 R53 came with that part. It is/was used to pry off the plastic wheel center cover on the X-Lite 84 wheels. The center cover had small holes that you put the 90 degree bend of the tool into and pulled the cover off.

ramjet is correct. I don't think I've noticed that kind of center cap on any of the CM wheels, though. I suppose it could have other uses, but that's the only thing I've ever used it for on our old R50 and R53.

Thanks everyone, so far as I can tell it's not used on the 5 spoke wheels that we ordered on our car.

We were all wrong.

It is the extractor hook for manually releasing the automatic transmission selector lever lock. It is on page 54 of the 2013 owners manual.

I assume it did not come with our 2012 because that car had a manual transmission. But the 2013 owners manual says it might be found in the tire changing set. Of course 2013 cars don't come with the tire changing set So for model years prior to 2013, that may be where you might find it.

I apologize, Stouf63 submitted the correct answer much earlier today, and I did not notice his post above. I am sending him the prize
