R60 A cautious warning for iphone 5 buyers
one thing you have to remember, when there is a shift things don't always work at once....if you're wanting everything that the iphone 5 is, give it 3-6 months and your accessories will be out...nothing happens all at once, MINI connect won't work right away but is that going to deter you from getting everything that you want in the phone otherwise? I mean the fact that on LTE im pulling down 27-35 Mbps of data and roughly 2-5 on wifi is simply stunning...
I'll be patient on the aftermarket companies to come out with their adapter because the phone is worth the buy, and i've already got confirmation from AT&T regional manager in midwest that Apple is designing their own becuase they've already pissed off too many people.

Besides the inability to use the feature, many owners have figured out a way to morrow their iphone screen onto the Connected LCD, using the Plug in option and a jailbroken phone. This won't be an option any more
The adapter will allow you to use the iphone 5 and the Connected features, but will not allow the ipod out feature for the plug in. Its over.

If Apple wants to sell more product they will adapt to fit these changes, that's why I said just give it some time and everything will work out.
Yeah, I'm not eligible for a full upgrade to the iPhone 5 until May and because of this I am for sure going to wait at least until then and see what goes down. I would be bummed to not be able to use all of the MINI Connected features because I purposely ordered this option!
Yeah it works for getting music and streaming and all that to work as a workaround but nothing else. Radio controls don't work, song info doesn't display etc. it's a simple fix and what I'm doing now but I miss changing songs via the screen or steering wheel and having the info on the radio. And for the connected folks it's even worse since they are asking about videos and iPod out stuff.
Don't hold your breath. We thought the same thing when they changed the adapter last time.
The Aux cable should work just as headphones work. Anything should work. The only thing is you will have to control it via the phone. My iPhone 5 works perfectly find with music, streaming, text tones, etc over the Aux cable. It would work like any device using an aux cable.
My comment was more a criticism of BBY's slow delivery of iPhones than a vote of confidence that BMW would have a timely solution.

It does need to be pushed in all the way. But with aux in, the volume on the phone needs to be up. Using the 30 pin connector or 9pin lightning connector the phones volume doesn't matter
I think my mini connected works too! And I can use the car interface to scroll through artists, playlists, etc. only think that is a pain are the long wires.
what cable are you using? First you said aux, but MINI Connected won't work via aux.
I was talking to my Mini SA about the whole iPhone 5 issue, when she sent me this:
It doesn't say anything that we don't already know, but they are going to work on it as soon as Apple comes out with the adapter.

I tell ya, it's so disturbing at how Apple releases it's products and really doesn't care about the consumer like you would expect. Between not giving any of the manufacturers notice of this change to create something in the meantime, to them releasing the new 5 with the iPhone maps that doesn't work right (among other small problems), all they care about is the $$$. How would they not notice this stuff during the many months of R&D that goes into making these things before they are released?
Just check out this article in November's MT magazine:

A $.4-billion loss from its troubled Opel/Vauxhall European operations offset GM North America's $2.0 billion earnings before income tax (EBIT), which was down from $2.2 billion in the second quarter of '11. GM's global net revenues fell 41 percent against a 4.6-percent drop in net revenues, and the automaker blamed the revenue decline on the strength of the U.S. dollar versus the euro.
Similarly, Ford lost $0.4 billion in Europe in the second quarter, against $2 billion EBIT in North America.
Chrysler's $436 million net income in the second quarter offset growing losses at majority owner Fiat. GM partner Peugeot-Citroen PSA was perhaps the automaker hardest hit by the European Union's economic crisis. Meanwhile, Europe's biggest automaker, Volkswagen Group, is surviving the EU crisis while making money in North America and Asia. Its net revenues rose 18 percent in Q2 '12 compared with Q2 '11.
Let's compare by throwing in one more variable. GM, VW, Ford, and Chrysler spend billions each year on product development and manufacturing. You can't make better profits without spending stacks of cash to design and build new models. The world's most valuable corporation, Apple, spends billions each year on product development and farms out most of its production to factories in China. Check out the results:

Almost makes me want to not get an iPhone to prove a point...
Newsflash: Apple is one of the most profitable and cash rich companies. They do not give a rip about anyone and anything other than their profits. They are moving forward and MINI Connected is probably nowhere on their radar except in the minds of the folks driving to the Apple campus in Cupertino with their MINI Connected system still hooked to a 4s.
Newsflash update: BMW and MINI are also in it for profits. They will update the systems on the cars that are going to be on dealer lots before the ones on the sold cars. The next time Apple makes a major update the connected system will be as useful as an 8 track deck.
Hopefully MINI comes through with backwards compatibilty for the folks who have newish cars and bought the connected system. I skipped that option because I have first hand experience on how BMW handles iDrive issues and upates on sold cars.

All valid points, but when car manufacturers are using iPhone's EXCLUSIVELY to work in conjunction with their own technology, you would think that Apple would be communicating with these manufacturers so they are prepared for the change, so you don't have a lot of pissed off iPhone and customers of that make auto manufacturer.

This is main reason I stay away from "tech packages" in all of my cars. As long as I get audio, Bluetooth and some type of charging connectivity from my phone I'm happy. Nothing worse then spending upwards of $2000 for a system that is outdated in a year.
Give me a charging port and aux input (or a usefull Y-Cable type of thing), proclip type cell mount and I will use my own tech package for streaming media, ipod function, GPS, and all the bells and whistles most tech packages slap together.
Now with the iPad mini coming out soon I may get one, a suction cup mount and slap one of those badboys right over Mickeys face
