R60 A cautious warning for iphone 5 buyers
Not really. I have a "dumb phone" supplied by work for when working in the field. A personal smartphone, especially the latest and greatest, is not something I NEED. Sometimes I catch myself WANTing one, but it quickly goes away when I realize the money I'm saving by not purchasing the lastest sheeple device
IM's do, not sure about email.
I don't have connected but do connected cars have an audio in jack? Yeah, you aren't going to get the in dash controls working but all streaming, playlists, and sound from the iPhone will work through the audio jack.
Not an ideal solution to integrate but something to hold you over if/when they release a new dock or adapter.

you can stream BT, yes. The MINI Connected option is a in-dash infotainment unit that works with an iphone to provide a lot of options. Read RSS feeds, twitter, facebook, ipod out controls, web radio (different than sirius), and a bunch of other stuff.
For 2012 models it's an option, but it's standard on 2013s.
According to Motoringfile's post a few days ago. The supposed adapter that will bring the current connector to the new style on Iphone 5 will work with the supplied Y cable…
.Guess we'll just have to see.
For us poor fold who opted for the cradle, looks as early next year….that probably is a bit optimistic

just spoke with a friend of mine who is a GM of an AT&T store and he said that they have already received word that Apple will be making adapters that will support video out...won't be ready for a little while, but will be making the adapter
Holy cow, worst video ever.
BT streaming is fine if you want to stay in the same playlist. But to switch playlists, or switch to an audiobook, you have to pick up your phone, which defeats the purpose of in-dash control.

I like this thread. I also "liked" my iphone4s... But, like the other apple "sheep" I just HAD to get the iphone5. Obviously it does not work with my MINI connected. With that said, this isn't my daily driver and I don't really find MINI connected that interesting (although it was a lot easier to use that interface for ipod than the main system interface from the main menu). I'm not too bummed because I just put another ipod in there (actually my old iphone4s lol) and it works great as a stand-alone ipod
Not sure if it was mentioned but i Miccus Mini-Jack RX to connect my iphone 5 in my 2011 CM. I do not have mini connect.
You can search amazon to read more about.
Miccus Mini-jack RX: Bluetooth Music Receiver pair it with Phones, Tablets, PCs and Apple Devices

And there's the key difference between BMW Apps and MINI Connected - BMW designed that their own system to be fully featured using only the white Apple cable (at least that's what I was lead to believe)...
im holding out on upgrading to the iphone5 until everything is worked out for the better. if it ever does? i have a jailbroke 4s now and there is a jailbreak app called "display out" that overrides the safety features built into the countryman. when i plug my phone into the y-cable everything on the phone shows up on the dash display, so now i also have navigation, youtube, ebay, email, ect.... its like i just jailbroke the mini connected
. i just wish the mini connected was touchscreen so i didnt have to touch the phone. a good phone mount may help some.

Not Mini Connected, and this is probably obvious, but just using the supplied Apple Lightning cable and the iPhone 5, it does nothing but charge. Waiting on the Apple adapter to use with the 30pin Mini cable but from what I've been reading that isn't going to work for you connected guys. But thought I'd get back with at least the obvious and what I found out on my end

One heartening thing that makes me even more sure this will work, is that I plugged the Lightning cable into the USB port on my Countryman with connected, and for fifteen minutes Connected was functional! Running MINI Connected it was able to correctly talk to the car, and all of the Connected features worked... for a short time. Then it realized the special cable was not involved and disconnected. Very bizarre.
So here's my predicament...I have a Blackberry Torch 9810 (At&t) that is all but crippled and barely even works for making a simple phone call via Bluetooth (you can forget about getting the audio/office part of BT to work with the BB)in the MINI, and I have an Android. The BB is for work, which I use 99% of the time, and the android is more of a personal phone that only a few people have the number for (when I shut down the BB when I don't want to be bothered). I had these same phones in my non connected non navigation '09 Clubman and the Bluetooth worked perfectly fine with both phones. I do have the abili to get both phones to connect simultaneously, though one can only be used as a primary device for calls, while the other to use for audio streaming. I got this to work like once. After that, it's too much fiddling and aggravation to get both phones to connect to the Miniin perfect harmony. I blame the MINI Bluetooth hating on the Blackberry for not working right, because I also have my Blackberry connected to a Jawbone when I'm out of the office, my office headset, my wife's Cadillac SRX, my Infiniti G37 work car, and the aftermarket head unit I recently installed in my Lotus, the Blackberry bluetooth works PERFECTLY.
I didn't want MINI connected or navigation, but due to bad timing, had no choice but to take a car that had both. My android line qualifies for an upgrade in November, and I was planning to get the new iPhone 5. I figured I'll swap out the sim cards between both phones to make the iPhone the primary work phone for calls, and I'll still be able to use the BB for what I use it mostly for, which is BBM and E-mail for work. I have an unlimited data plan on my BB line, but not on the android, which sucks if I can't flip flop the
All this uncertainty has me thinking to get the 4S instead of the 5, because I figured if I have connected, I may as well use it, and if I get the 5, there are too many unknowns, or it will be known, just in due time.
Decisions, decisions....

The adaptor should work just fine. It will send audio out that the Y-Cable needs, and the phone should be able to recognize the Y-Cable as an iPhone Connected accessory. What have you read that would indicate otherwise? All it needs to do is recognize the chip in the MINI Y-Cable that designates the car as a MINI Connected Accessory the app can talk to.

But thats over. It was a much nicer looking interface than MINI's too, but maybe thats user preference.

one thing you have to remember, when there is a shift things don't always work at once....if you're wanting everything that the iphone 5 is, give it 3-6 months and your accessories will be out...nothing happens all at once, MINI connect won't work right away but is that going to deter you from getting everything that you want in the phone otherwise? I mean the fact that on LTE im pulling down 27-35 Mbps of data and roughly 2-5 on wifi is simply stunning...
I'll be patient on the aftermarket companies to come out with their adapter because the phone is worth the buy, and i've already got confirmation from AT&T regional manager in midwest that Apple is designing their own becuase they've already pissed off too many people.
