I have to say, I like it. Like one of the comments on the Motoring File article, I am really not a big fan of the Countryman, so its a surprise to me that I like the Paceman!
I'm going to have to say I prefer the Countryman. I feel the design is more consistent between the two halves of the car. Nothing wrong with having more options though.
Not a bad looking vehicle but if I'm going for a Maxi Mini, I'd more likely get a Countryman. Conversely, if I didn't care about four doors, I'd get something smaller than the Countryman.
I like it except for the big name Pacemen across the back. That would be the first thing to go.
I agree, it looks way too much like how the Chrysler Sebring emblems were arranged. If they decide to do this than they would hit the jar of removed emblems sitting on my shelf as soon as we get home from the dealership
Didn't they change the name to Countryman Coupe? Makes me think the production version probably won't say Paceman across the back like that.

If they do put it on there and I go that route when the JCW's are out, I don't think I would make it out of the dealership before removing it.

I think the original concept was called 'Paceman', then for a while it was looking like it was going to be 'Countryman Coupe', but when it started getting closer to being real it got changed back to 'Paceman'.
These photos look like marketing materials, so my vote is that this is the final production look of the car.
For what it's worth, I actually don't mind the lettering. It is different though. There is a sense with the Countryman of the back being a big empty canvas - one of the reasons I ordered mine with sport stripes. (The other reason for the stripes is that they obviously make it go faster!)

Nothing wrong with that. Heck when I swapped my CM for my CMs I swapped over a ton of stuff in the parking lot. They must have thought I was crazy. So what's wrong with a little de-badging on a brand new car.
I prefer the countryman. The older me and my friends/family get the harder it is to squeeze into the back seat without a door beside it. I learn long ago 4 seats need 4 doors. But I do think the paceman is visually nice. I agree with the mini/range rover comment. I think it's the roof line.
I'll be ordering one in the Cooper All 4 variant for nasty weather winter driving to replace my Scion xB. Even though the chassis is identical to the CM, it doesn't look as bloated to me, and being lower than the CM, handling should be better. Bring on the snow, sleet and salt!
