It's been hard but I'm doing my best to find the best combo of compressor size and turbine style. 400hp is cool and all but most people won't want to go that high, mainly because they'll need a little bit of engine work. trying to keep within a realistic range of what the stock engine can handle, at least the N18.
So with that said... even a 47mm is too much for most people to maximize. That's what I currently run. The 42-45mm range available now are pretty darn good, but I feel there is still lots of potential to have quicker spool and more torque early on in the RPM range. We'll see I guess!
That’s awesome, I’ll be trying to keep an eye on the progress! Good luck with it. That sounds really nice. You are absolutely right about people not wanting to start building up the internals to make huge hp numbers. The numbers aren’t really as important to me anyway, as long as it delivers the power well. And you are dead on with the size for these motors. They pull all you need them too with 42-45mm compressor. Sure some folks want more, but most of us don’t have the money it takes to make big hp. As you know, it starts to get more costly per hp as you get into the higher numbers these motors can make. The top end of the rpm range isn’t as much of an issue once you upgrade a little with the turbo, but I know I definitely wouldn’t mind a little more grunt on the bottom end.
But I grew up with Chevy V8’s and that group old men, lol
Has been a few days now, but if you look closely under the car, you can see my exhaust cutout below the muffler, I cut my exhaust and welded in an electric actuated cutout so I can switch from stock muffler with 2nd cat and resonator delete. To full on straight pipe.

I have heard a video of it. It’s pretty awesome! With the cut-out open it sounds aggressive and mean! I like it!
Today I drove! Lol.
PSMINI (Puget Sound Mini Motoring Club) had a drive today for one final trip on the Alaska Way Viaduct before it’s torn down. We also cruised Belltown and Alki Beach (all in Seattle) and it was fantastic! We had 50 Mini’s turn out today! It makes for one hell of a Cooper Caravan!
It was really cool, we had people in oncoming traffic, out on condo balconies, and all up and down the road stopping and taking pictures and videos as we rolled through. It was really quite a sight!
MrGrumpy - Very cool event. I'm sure it was quite a site. BTW, your first photo was all I needed to see to know that you're not here in the upper midwest.
When I bought my car, the trim ring around the shifter was marred at the 4 and 8 o'clock positions. I can't imagine how the previous owner did it (and probably don't want to know). Recently, I discovered that I could replace it for $19, so I did. It's a really minor thing but it makes me feel better. I'm sure everyone on NAM understands how that works.

Hey as long as you are doing something to it that makes YOU happy, that’s what counts! Nice job.
I have had a torque arm insert sitting here for at least 6 months, and I finally went to go install it the other day, and failed miserably! Ha ha. They are a lot harder to get in on the All4! I needed a third arm that I didn’t have so I ended up buttoning it back up, insert less still. Going to try again maybe today if I can find a buddy to come help rock the motor, or maybe use a floor jack. But that idea makes me a tad nervous for my oil pan. Any other suggestions from anyone who has done it is welcome! I had it sooo close to slipping in! Dang!
Today I changed the rear diff oil and replaced the stock fill plug with an ECS magnetic one.
I had planned to change the transfer case oil as well but hit a road block. Namely, I couldn't get the old oil out. The 1/4" ID tubing I used on the diff seemed to be too big (though there isn't a lot of room to maneuver at the transfer case). I found smaller tubing but am not convinced that I was able to get it to seal with the larger tubing on my fluid extractor. Finally, gave up and just topped-off the oil instead. The fill plug in the transfer case was already magnetic and had quite a bit of metal sludge on it. I hope that's not a bad sign -- haven't noticed any symptoms.

what issues did you come across? I installed mine 6months ago on ramps, and it went smoothly on my All4. I just had to find the right way to maneuver the arm/new bushing to slip it thru the opening.
installed a Megan Racing strut bar I got on ebay for $70 shipped. went in in 5 mins, and def tightened up the steering. So far best bang for buck on the R60

that is my problem, I just can’t rock the motor enough to get it to slip back in all the way by myself. I may get together with friend and do ours both together, or I could probably jack up the motor a little, but I’m not sure I like the idea of doing that!
The Mrs. tapped a Lexus at a stop light a few weeks back. Bent the plate and cracked that middle grill piece.....so today I threw new plates on and put a light bar in after clearancing the grill trim a little.
Started with some little L brackets drilled through the trim...If I want to I can take it off, replace the $30 trim and youd never know
Used the light bars L brackets from there
Voila
Protrudes slightly. Only way to recess it more might be to take off the bumper and put the bolts further in than I could otherwise
I do still have to complete the wiring. Was bright as F--- when I tested it pre install though!
EDIT: got it wired up. I like that I could hide almost every bit of wiring inside the giant cowl area, with a relay bolted in near the battery. Only one bit of loom coming from the bulkhead down to the grill.
I put the switch just left of the steering wheel. It is terribly overexposed in this pic but is nice

Just curious, what’s the point of a light bar on an on-road vehicle? Wire to the high beam circuit? I always thought they were an off-road thing.
really not much point. Extra light if ever on backroads alone.
Sure they also work offroad if alone. I stress alone since you can’t even use them off-roading in groups. Just would blind all your friends. Been there done that with my FJ.
Like i said, just did it instead of replacing the grill. Plus the small handful of times I have been bombing down 55mph back roads at night, I would have liked some more light since our CM only has halogens.
ill end up just wiring it independently anyway. Pretty much might use it in lieu of high beams.
I've had my new-to-me '12 CMS for almost a month now and the weather finally let up enough to get a few things done to it this weekend.
Installed a rear bumper protector and fixed a fresh chip in the windshield
Also dropped in a JB+ unit and I'm quite surprised at how much more responsive it is now Next step is install an exhaust and then lower it and upgrade the rear ASB.
Overall, very pleased with my purchase and happy to be a part of the MINI clan!
New windshield and installed "smoked" lenses replacing the white turn signal scuttles. Only have to do my front and rear lights and my "smoked" project will be complete.
Oil change recently and awaiting my custom k03/4 hybrid turbo. Nothing like it on the market... hopefully my math close on and it performs like I'm wanting!
