Driving lights?

All you guys with driving lights. Where is the best place to buy them? How hard are they to install? What about the switch? Also any updates on Sway Bars?
Thanks in advance!

Spend 27 seconds or so poking around and or searching and you'll likely find all the answers you need. ;-)

Hi, IbisS5. What kind of lights do you want? http://www.tmart.com/Car-Lights/
Try here to find what you need. Click "detail" in the specific product page, you'll find the description of the installment.

Try your Mini dealer

I got the genuine Mini driving lights at my dealer installed for $787.66. That included everything including the tax. They put the switch on the dash just left of the steering wheel. The driving lights will come on with the hi-beams when the driving light switch is turned on. When you turn on the driving light switch a light will be on the switch letting you know they are active. When the dealer installs these lights they will also program them into your cars computer.

Now this is my opinion:: I think the genuine driving lights from Mini look the best of any I have seen. They do work perfect and light up the road for a very long distance. They are very high quality and fit on the car perfect.

The switch is located in a perfect location

Ain't they beautiful?

Looks very nice and I'm considering the Mini's driving lights as well. My MA quoted me about $1K but I have not check since. Now that I saw your pic I want one too.

Personally I think they make my car. The grill just wouldn't be the same without them. They extra light is fantastic too. We got ours installed by Mini.

VIP custom parts has several options. I have the quad Hella lights and am glad I did this mod. The lights came with instructions. Install took the greater part of an afternoon, but it was well worth it.

FredoinSF would you be able to post a pic of where you mounted the switch? How do you have it set up? Go on independently? With parkers or headlights?

I have not installed the switch. It was missing from the package that was sent initially and I really have not had the time to mess with it since. I debated hooking them either to the brights or to the fog lights as Threar has done. With the fogs you could basically use the existing switch without installing an aftermarkey one. The fog light switch is not particularty easy to reach so I ended up hooking them directly to the brights.

This pic shows where I installed the switch for my VIP. This is basically just a kill switch as the lights are actually tied to the fog lights.

The switch is the little green on the left side.

Is the harness for these lights already in place or is that part of the ~$700 charge? Has anyone repurposed them with a different light later?

I bought a pair of Hella 5 inch (500) driving lights on ebay For $63.00 delivered brand new. There is a great and reputable enhancement shop in my town. They installed the driving lights on the front bumper, with a dash mounted switch that lights up when on and is separate from the cars lights. Install cost $55. A whopping
total of $118. I like the way they look, work, and cost. Csdaman2

That's probably the best deal for driving lights out there. Well done!

Where to tap high beams?

FredoinSF,

Can you tell me where and how you tapped into the brights? I also have the VIP brackets, but I am using them with a pair of hellas I already had. Not sure where to tap into the brights.

Thanks!

- Jac

**** Had to add - the four lights looks killer on the dark CM!

Hi Jac,

On my car, I tapped into the red and yellow wire that goes into the headlight connector on the driver's side. Picture below.

Note that there are three types of headlights (halogne / xenon / adaptive xenon) so you probably want to use a test light or something to be sure you have the correct one. My car has the xenons, but they are the "basic" non adaptive ones. Also note that the brights will only be on with car running. If the car is not running and you push the lever in you will get the non bright courtesy lighting.

THANK YOU! That is 100% the exact info I needed. We also have the 'standard' xenon, and that is exactly how I want them to run. I'll test before I tap. (hmmm, sounds like a good motto)

Thanks again,

-Jac

By "main beam", I assume you mean the "bright"/high-beam lamps?

You should have a button installed on the lower dash left knee bolster (south of the turn indicator stalk) to turn the spot lamps off. If you didn't get one installed, I'd talk to the dealer!

Hey man. I know you’ve got many options now. I got light and they are amazing. I want to show it but I can’t upload photos right now(my camera’s lens broke). You can also choose from halogen or HIDs as an option. Mine’s doing great. Perfectly installed and fit on my mini.
