Center Rail phone holder

So I'm in Belfast, Northern Ireland on business...looking at the website for the local MINI dealer they're showing a "Universal Holder for Mobile Devices" for the center rail. Why is that not available in the US?

The below link is the best I can do, no link for the exact page that shows the device. Looking at the picture I see no reason why it wouldn't work in a US CM.

http://accessories.mini.com/internet...K/en/index.jsp

Any thoughts?

They sell a universal cellphone rail holder. They had one at my dealer when i went in to order a cup holder. It's basically an oval cup frame that you can set it in and cables can fit in the bottom.

The one that came with mine doesn't stand up. I'll snap a photo of it this afternoon.

I'm in Canada and mine came with that phone holder. The stupid things exploded into five pieces within two days. Total piece of crap. Now I use the cup holder for my phone, as it is a crap cupholder!

When I picked up my mini a few weeks ago my SA informed me that I was one of the first to get "the new" iPhone holder. This one lays flat on the rail and has an elastic band to keep it in place. Is this the one you're all talking about - or the older stand up style one?

Their steering wheels on on the right, ours are on the left. Would this holder still work?

It was the standup style. The exact one shown in the photograph on the link in the OP's post. It literally pinged apart into a handful of pieces. Frankly the cupholder works fine.

I've been using the Macally mCup cup-holder phone mount in my Mini Cooper. Will be interested to see how it plays out in the CMS. I haven't really missed having two cupholders available, and it's worked really well for me.

Macally on Amazon

I use the RAM-A-CAN mount in the passenger side cup holder, and got a rail mount cup holder to actually have a usable cup holder. It was expensive, but it puts the iphone in a great location, well within reach of the otherwise useless ipod cable.

I will take one this weekend and post - it works pretty well, I wouldn't have known it was a "new model" if she hadn't said something.

The only problem with this solution is your phone is under the parking break and do not have access.. Another Poor Design on Mini Part.

I never use my parking break so that's not an issue for me. It actually works well - it has some rubber on it that sort of grips your phone even without the rubber band around it. Not perfect - but just fine to use as a place for my phone to sit while I'm using it to play music, talk on the phone etc.

If you have a Center Arm rest as well, then this design or anything on the front rail is useless.

This is true. I didn't get the arm rest so I had the extra room for it I guess.

I have the arm rest and the new phone holder and it works pretty good as long as you don't need to look at your phone. I have the Mini connect and nav, so everything is displayed on my screen and there's really no reason to look at my phone, so it works well for me.

It appears that if your phone is in a case it won't fit in this holder, is that true?

I wonder if it fits on models that have Connected and the larger shifter base housing the joystick controls...?
