Give your SA a call. Apparently they old ones kept snapping/breaking so this is the new one they give out with your car. I wonder if you called and said your old one "broke" if they'd just send you one of these instead. Obviously they got plenty of complaints about the old model if they designed a new version that works better (doesn't break). Maybe worth a shot, no?

I have my iPhone 4S in a candy shell hard case and it fits perfect. I have yet to even secure it under the strap (although I tested it and it works fine even with my case on) - I just lay it in there and it stays - even with plenty of banking of curbs! HTH.

So this is the replacement for the exploding phone holder? Is there any problem with cable management?

I also got this newer version phone holder as a free add on with my CM a few weeks ago. My iPhone (with phone case) fits great. I usually plug it in and place in holder, then use all functions on MINI connected screen. You can't really use/see the phone screen when it is in the holder.

Does anyone know the Part Number for the new version of the phone holder? Is it available from the Parts Department?

Macally on Amazon

I tried this - couldn't get an iPhone in there.

What? The side pieces that hold the phone slide up and out of the holder and can be positioned in various "rails" to accomodate different widths of phone. It will for sure fit the iphone - it fits 2 of ours, plus an ipod in an otterbox case.

Check out the removable pieces on the cup holder - remove and reinsert in a wider rail...

I'm sure it will work out for you. Also - I remember thinking that the screw thing on the base that's supposed to lock it into the holder seemed backward to me. I had to twist it the opposite direction to get the bottom base to expand to tightly lock into the holders.

Yep, I got all of that except the phone holder!
I wonder if it because I got the arm rest, which has a iPhone dock (which does me absolutely no good) built it!?

That's probably it. I can't imagine fitting a sunglass holder, the flat iPhone holder AND an armrest in that space.

I have the sunglass case and the iPhone holder - but I didn't get an armrest so maybe that's why. I also got the change holder - but I keep it in my glove box mostly.

Worked like a dream. I have an older iPhone sized iPod I like to keep in the flat iPhone holder - but then my phone was always on the rail or my lap. I love this holder since I can see from my drivers seat (or passenger if I switch sides) everything on my phone. Great product. A lot of bang for the buck.

should have had it, though its mostly worthless. Can't really use it because of the hand brake. Someone made a phone case out of their sunglass holder.

I made a holder, but just throw it in the center of the rail now.

But the car should have come with the holder.

I'm in the minority of liking the sunglass holder. I keep "spare" (inexpensive) sunglasses in there that fit both myself and DH - that way if one of us forgets our glasses (usually him) there's a pair there waiting we've forgotten about. I wouldn't mind another cup holder though - since I'm using one of mine for my phone I could always use another.

Awesome - great to hear! My wife loved mine, so I had to buy her one too. She uses the TomTom app on the iphone a lot for navigation, and this holder works perfectly for allowing her to see it as she drives.

Does anyone know the Part Number for the new version of the phone holder for the Center Rail (iPhone lies flat)? Is it available from the Mini Parts Department?

Thanks,
Vince

I just received from the link below. I have placed it up close to the shift box, and it works well. The connections to the the USB and speaker connector outlets need to have small connectors. The parking brake handle does not seem to get in the way of using - but it would be great if Mini could move it somewhere else! For now, I think I have solved my issues.

I found this little car mount the other day at the local Apple store. It clips on to the vent and then expands to hold your smartphone. I used it with my iPhone to this morning on a a trip - was at a great location to view and not take eyes off the road. Charge cord stayed out of the way. It only cost $25US.

Solved problem of keeping phone on center rail and then having to look down to operate.
