Hmmm, I ended up deciding I'd first talk to a person at Ask MINI and called back and this time I'm back to awaiting transportation. Maybe I typed in the wrong production number by accident and got one that was already in transit. (Not that I assume this system is terribly airtight.)

I did eventually work out a search of someone asking pretty much this exact same question, and they only really had one answer from someone who said that by the time they got that message the boat they were on was already in England. Which coincidentally, is where the boat that left on Saturday is. I think I'll have to give this more time to develop before I get too excited!

Now, if my car is on the boat in question (the Don Juan) it's currently doing donuts in the English Channel... strange.

I've tried searching for my VIN on the WW site and haven't had anything come up. I figure that gives me an 'in' to call my MA without officially seeming crazy, but I figured it was worth checking in here as well. Any idea where in the process that message means?

Thanks!

Hmm. Did you end up calling your MA? Maybe it is on a ship now! I heard it may take a couple days to show up on the WW site but I'm not sure. Mine still says "Your vehicle is released to a carrier, and is awaiting transportation to the port of exit." It may be departing on Friday on the Garnet Leader but unfortunately that is a NYK Line so I don't think you can use your VIN to see if it's actually on the boat or not. I wonder if ASK MINI will tell you which ship it's on.

I sent her an email, but haven't heard back yet (I ended up switching MAs, so maybe I don't have her right email address - this was my first time emailing this particular one).

Since that one time I've consistently gotten the 'awaiting transport' message. So I'm getting more and more sure it was a mistake. I'll probably call a little later today (busy day at work so far!).

Still haven't heard back from my MA (I must have had the wrong email address for my new one...) but I decided to talk to a person at ASK MINI. They told me that my car has been 'dispatched', which seems to mean that it has left the plant, but isn't at the port yet. The date he had for it was today (8/28). (I'm starting to think that things don't really happen on the weekends...)

There's a boat I'm hoping to catch on Friday. Let's hope it makes it!

...and my MA wrote back. She said from her system that "it looks like it was dispatched to the Port, and is just about to get on the ship."

Now, I'm not sure how much the 'just about to get on the ship' is just wishful thinking, since the next ship to NYC seem to have just left Poland and isn't expected in Bremerhaven until Friday. But at least it sounds like it has definitely left the plant.

Here's my log of statuses given by the 866-ASK-MINI number - dates are the date it said it to me.

7/27/2012 (Ordered) - "Your vehicle is scheduled for production, with no confirmed production date yet."

8/2/2012 - "Your vehicle is in production. The estimated completion date is August 23rd, 2012."

(Note: There was a 2 week production break!)

8/22/2012 - "Your vehicle is in the body shop with an estimated completion date of August 23rd, 2012."

8/23/2012 - "Your vehicle is in the paint shop with an estimated completion date of August 23rd, 2012."

8/24/2012 - "Your vehicle was released to a carrier, and is awaiting transportation to the port of exit."

8/29/2012 - "Your vehicle is being transported to the port of exit."

So far I haven't found any real worth to the OL website. It seems to be pretty much a day behind the phone system, and doesn't seem to have as many possible statuses. I suspect the phone system is a little behind reality (about a day, I think).

Where are people getting the information like "Born"? Is that from an MA or a live person somewhere?

That's great! Automated Ask Mini said mine was being transported to the port as well. The ship I think mine will be on leaves Saturday. Fingers crossed! Which ship is yours going to be on? Have you checked this webcam?

There is a ship called Eukor there right now.

Called ASK_MINI today on mine...since it enter production my message has been "Your vehicle is in production. The estimated completion date is August 31st, 2012."

Today I get : "Your vehicle is being assembled. The estimated completion date is August 31st, 2012."

Do thy have different status for different cars, maybe it depends on what they feel like punching in for a code ...wheres my Paint & body shop messages LOL

When you spend enough time with it, it becomes obvious that it's not a terribly rarified experience. From looking at descriptions of what MINI calls the body stop in the UK plant it sounded like the body shop is where the car is assembled. So maybe they changed the description, or they're two descriptions close on the timeline and when the system last updated that's the one it happened to be on.

My 'body shop' status was less than 24 hours. I seem to recall first hearing that message late one evening and then in the morning it was paint shop. If I was only checking once a day I wouldn't have heard it.

I got an update this morning, here's my current ASK-MINI log:

*NEW!*
8/31/2012 - "Your vehicle is at the port awaiting a shipping vessel. There's no shipping information available at this time."

Since the boat I'm hoping to make leaves today (and it's still at the dock) I hope it can get on it!

The webcam is a little disappointing in that you can't see the boat in question (Turandot) on there. It's docked in front of the Morning Linda which is the blue boat you see on the left.

From what some people on a BMW forum said BMW store their cars in the multistory parking garage seen on the right side of the screen (the first thing you see below the cranes). With all that it's not too likely that I'll catch a glimpse of it. And at this point, I wouldn't want to SEE it because I want it on that boat!!!!

The information I'm getting is from marinetraffic.com. Not sure the direct way to get there, but if you do a Google search for 'turandot marine traffic' the first link that comes up with bring you to general information about the boat. (Use a different boat name, if you have a different boat in mind!)

From there if you click on "vessel's current track", you'll get a Google Maps overlay of where the boat is and other boats nearby will be marked. You can mouse over them and it'll show the name.

Great for the true obsessive!

My Surf Blue Countryman is also at the port. Left assembly plant to head to the port on 8-24. It is shipping to Baltimore - So I believe it will be on WWL?

No record of it on their system yet. The Toreador left 8-28 and the Tarago leaves 9-3... Hoping to hear it's on the way.....

ITS HERE! My dealer called me up this morning and we were able to get all the paper work done before taking delivery tomorrow. It has to go through the dealers clean and prep so they are going to do that tomorrow while we are at work. Then after the work day we are going to pick it up.

We got to see it today, just no personnel there to get it finished up. Looks a lot better in person then in the online pics. Pics to come later.

Our trade in is on "loan" to us today so one last day with the 05 cooper.
