Current Purchase

I'm currently in conversation with a dealership concerning a
purchase of a CM S on the lot. They are willing to take off 999.00
Msrp but the car has First Place Finish applied to it & they
are wanting to sell with NO first place warranty since they
are giving me 999.00 off msrp? What would be their
reasoning behide the NO warranty?Would u take the offer?

Thanks

They have about $20 cost in the sealer. Totally a dealer ripoff. If they are willing to take off $999, and that's all they'll take off, I'd take it.

My dealer tried to add $700 for a paint sealer, AFTER I had already ordered. I voiced my concern loudly and they removed the $$. Not even sure what the "warranty" covers, but it's a bogus charge, at best.

My $.02.

+1

I'm always skeptical of these dealer "protection packages", that idea of including a "warranty" against upholstery stains, bird droppings, et al is new since I last purchased a new car.

As donhuns said, likely that the dealer may have a [very] few bux at stake in applying some chemical(s), but they'd likely have to send real $$ to an outside firm for the warranty coverage. So omitting that lets them not pass it along to you.

Ish. I think the net is: add $999 to the sticker for this package, then "discount" the $999 back off as a "deal". So you're being offered the vehicle at MSRP, basically, other than whatever value the protective "special sauce" might have. Having said that, in our market (STL), there's just one dealer, so these cars aren't subject to much of the deep discounting / $$ over invoice / pit the 5 Chevy dealers against one another for a loaded Silverado / usual buying tactics. There is at least some leverage in that you're attempting to buy a vehicle already in inventory.

I had a discussion with my MA here about a $799 "package" when I ordered mine, and I was prepared for such as I'd seen that line item on their in-stock cars. He had an anecdote or two about how the coverage had paid off for some owners (one involving a partially open can of house paint, spilled, warranty paid to replace the carpet). Still, no thanks. I'd rather apply the $799 towards buying a real extended warranty from MINI if I choose to.

Such discussions always bring me back to the "TruCote scene" from Fargo (Olds salesman dealing with a buyer surprised to learn there's an additional charge for a protective sealant on top of the car's price)...
