R60 Question on how to waste gas
Question on how to waste gas
Sarcastic subject line but it is sort of the truth in my case. I have a Mastiff that travels everywhere with me. On hot days there are times when I need to leave him in the car for 10-15 minutes. On my old truck it was easy, I left it running with the A/C blasting for my big guy and was able to lock the truck and unlock it from the outside with the keypad on the door.
With the Countryman it looks like that might not be as simple. Can the second key fob be used to lock/unlock the car while the other one stays in the ignition to keep the car cooling? I do not have the comfort access if that makes any difference.
Thanks,
Nick

I'm not sure, but I have been able to leave the fob in the ignition while removing the physical key. Haven't tried locking it by the key yet, but worst case someone could steal the car but not be able to restart it again
Pretty sure you don't need the physical key to start the car.
I don't have the car yet
I pick it up on Monday and this just popped into mind.
So there is a standard key that is part of the fob that is removable? If that's the case it sounds like I should be able to leave the car running and lock the vehicle with the standard key from the outside, no?

I don't have comfort access just the regular key fob and I discovered that I can leave my car on and take the key fob, close the door and lock it. Here's how I do it.
Open door.
Enter car.
Close door.
Start car.
Shut car down. (don't open any doors)
Remove key fob. (don't open any doors)
I have a max of 6-8 seconds to push the start button and car will start without the key in the slot.
Open door (car still running)
Exit car (car still running)
Lock with key fob (car still running)
Enjoy (car still running)
I can always do it as long as the doors are closed when I shut the car down and do it right away; shut down, remove key fob, press start and it'll turn on and then I can do whatever I want (open doors and lock and unlock with the key fob). Hope it helps!

If I start the car I can't remove the key fob until I press the stop button.
New cars come with two remote key fobs and can use a maximum of 3 remotes according to the manual PDF. However I've read that buying a remote is expensive, so take care not to loose any.

Sounds like a pain but I will give it a try.

Awesome, thanks everyone. I will go about it using the old fashion key rather then the start and restart trick. For some reason it seems wrong to me to start a car and then just restart it. Can't explain it but as long as there is an old fashion key it will do.
