19 Inch Wheels for All4?

Anyone install aftermarket 19 inch wheels on their ALL4? Which wheels? Which tires and what size? Does it affect the ride quality? Will non run flat tires offset the stiffer ride ride due to the larger wheels? Do you have sport suspension or non-sport suspension? Would I dare drive a car with 19 inch wheels in New York "pothole" City? Will I inevitably damage the wheels and/or low profile tires? Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm in New Orleans which makes New York streets look fairly smooth. I have 18's and I am taking the RF's off and putting on non-rf's with 5 more points of profile to soften the ride. I would think that 19's would be great for highway driving and pictures, but not much else.

My two cents.

Habberstad has a set of 19" JCW wheels mounted with P-Zeros on sale in their service area. I believe they were around $2600.

I have 235/40 x 19's. The tires are Continentals, Conti Sport Contact 3's .The aluminum wheels fit the countryman perfect…actually were made for the countryman so no offsets/spacers needed. Can use the lug nuts from your stock wheels. I did order a set of TPMS (4) and left the originals with the factory tire/wheels, for a complete set to sell or use for winter which I have. I agree with GeoffreyM's comments, as they look great and are a nice ride on the highway smooth pavement but can't say much more in regards to back bumpy roads of CT. But I wasn't expecting much more either.

20's would look awesome! I have the stock 17's and those are the only things that I feel that I need to change.

Installed Niche Circuts 19x8.5 - +35 offset w/ 245/35/19 Hanook Ventus tires. You can see the results in my album.

Flyer53 - Your 8" width with +45 looks good. Any wider, or less offset, and they start to stick out past the fender. The wheel I want to use isn't available in an 8" so I'm going to use 8.5" width. Luckily, I have a good relationship with the wheel manufacturer and they'll machine me a custom offset, so I'm thinking of +50.

With +50 on an 8.5" rim it will only extend 1mm farther outward than your rims, however it will extend an additional 11mm inward. I just wanted to ask if you mounted you wheels yourself and if so how much clearance there was before they hit the strut or other suspension parts... I'm sure there is most likely room for the extra 11mm but I'm just trying to do all the homework I can before having wheels custom machined.

BTW, if anyone is interested, the OEM JCW 19" wheels are +52 offset but only 7.5" wide.

Also, here is a simple offset calculator that I used on my car, and that I'm using again, now, for the Mini... http://www.1010tires.com/wheeloffsetcalculator.asp

I can say that it is not a good idea to drive low profiles in NYC. I paid the price and busted two rims worth $800 about ten years ago on my B5 Passat. Potholes suck!

I believe you should have plenty of room…I'll be mounting the summer's on in a few days. I'll take a better look, measurement and report back

Thank you, I would greatly appreciate that. We just ordered the car so I've got some time, but it would be nice if I could have the wheels/tires here ready to stick on as soon as the car arrives.

As long as the topic is 19" wheels. I've been researching tires. Here are tire diameters that I've looked into...

205/55/17 - 25.9" (standard size that comes on the car)
225/40/19 - 26.1" (ok for 7.5"-8" wheels, but 225 is narrow for 8.5")
235/40/19 - 26.4"
245/35/19 - 25.8"
245/40/19 - 26.7"

I'd like just the right look; I'm not going to lower the car so I don't want an ultra low sidewall with a big gap. I'm leaning towards 245/40/19 which is just slightly larger than stock to fill out the wheel openings a bit better. 235/40/19 would be good as well but it's an odd-ball size with not a lot of options, and no tires that I'd consider come in that size.

Hi Flyer53, Im thinking of getting the exact same tires and wheels.. and i also got the lowered springs from NM.. May i ask if 235 tire is too wide? will it hit something? thanks..

Wade Explorer…I have plently of clearance. I have not lowered mine, so I can't verify the clearance but sure looks as it would be fine. I have no regrets with my set-up….anxiously waiting for warmer weather so I can do the swap…….Don't look for a smoother ride as far as bumps, potholes, etc (actually bent one of my aluminum wheels by hitting a pretty nasty one). New England roads have no sympathy for any vehicle, especially the Mini. Other than that….handling & traction are awesome.
Good Luck!
