Rear side windows question?

Hey guys, I have an easy question for you Countryman owners out there. Do the back passenger window roll down completely or do they have that stupid 3/4 roll down safety feature?

Thanks,

Nick

It is more than a 3/4, but still they do not go fully down. They leave about 2 inches at the front and taper to the back.

Ughhh...thanks camminich.

Has anyone modified theirs so they roll down completely? I forgot to check this before I ordered. Oops. I have an English Mastiff that will be riding in the back of our countryman and he likes to stick his big head out the window.

It may be that the rear wheel well cut-out in the rear door physically restricts the window travel.

What's the exact reason they do this? I know cars that only go down halfway its obvious there, but why leave that little bit on the Countryman?

The restriction preventing the glass from totally going down into the door is the shape of the door and the lack of a place for the window to go. The designers do the best that they can - but some cars can only put about half the window inside the door (crummy). MINI lowers the windows almost all the way (pretty good). Various tricks are employed to make it possible for the window to go lower, like splitting the window and having only part of it lower.

Ghamma is correct. This is not a big brother type safety feature it is a design issue/conflict. Other manufacturers may only have the window roll half way down, this is also design in that they may be using the door panel to house a cup holder, arm rest, or some other design element.

Roll down back windows are a victim of 1970's downsizing. There simply isn't enough room in most vehicles these days. Doesn't have to do with cupholder or armrests - they're mounted outside of the door cavity. If anyone remembers that far back - - GM, for a couple of years, had fixed rear windows.

And some exoticars front windows are split for the same reasons, i.e. McLaren F1 and early Lamborghini Countach's.
