Tires for 17" wheels

I would like to order the CM S with sport suspension and 17" wheels. I think that will be a great combo with the stiffer suspension. I would also replace the run flats with all season non-run flats. However, I am not finding any available tires in all season non-run flat, and tire choices are very limited in general. There are much more choices available for the 18" wheels. Anyone have this configuration and offer any opinions/other options?

Why not get the Sport Package as well that includes the 18" wheels?

I just looked for the thread and couldn't find it but I was reading the there is a 17" tire size that is very popular and is a little wider that will fit the CM. Makes replacing tires cheaper and easier to find locally.

More opinions than Medusa has snakes. Check down in the specialize boards or search. Generally, BMW has embraced the run flat and the rest of the world, pretty much, has not. RF availability and choice is very limited in 17" and even more so in 18" - no all season at all in that size (or maybe one). You pretty much take what MINI offers or go to after market standard with a flat kit. Sorry, but take comfort that you are not alone.

You might want to try to look into 225/45/17... lot more choices than 205/55/17

Disclosure: I haven't tried this setup myself so I don't have first hand experience...but I'm told it should work. I'm sure someone at TireRack can discuss additional options...

225/50 17 there are hundreds of tires available in this size and it's the same width as the optional 18" tires. The diameter is almost identical.

there is thread in tires and wheels forum

I have 205/55/17 Bridgestone Dueller run-flats and sports suspension and love the combination as it gives just the right blend of comfort, firmness and compliance IMHO.

(The Countryman All4D is certainly better than my ClubmanD was on its 16in OEM Goodyear Excellence run-flats or on the normal Vredestein Sportraks I swapped to.)

People who dis run-flats from experience with the first ones may not realise how much better they have become.

215/55R17 and 215/50R17 are both very close in size, and have a lot more tires available. I plan on going with the 55's as they are ever so slightly bigger, and have a better effect on ride and your odometer, plus have even better section than the 50's. You can use this site to see the exact difference in tire size and what the effect would be.

Good to know that they've gotten better....just was reading a thread about folks that were pleased to get rid of them.

Btw, why can't you configure black wheels with a white roof? The configurator won't let me. So much for the 10 million possible combos. Guess I'll have to settle for anthracite - and I can't quite tell what that looks like.

Also, in your signature, both links go to Clubman photos.
