Flat load floor after the fact?

Of course, my CM arrives at the dealership just when the flat load floor is available on the configurator - anyone heard if we can simply buy it by itself as an aftermarket item?

Good question, I really want to see it in someone's CM before I spring for it again.

We ordered, but it was deleted at delivery. I am thinking a lockable cover for the boot might be of more value.

Ahhh, it's called the "Hatch" - the thing in back with the big MINI logo.

Same here. Not sure I even want it or need it now however.

OK, seriously now. Most of the time the back seats will be down only for the dogs - which means I'll have the standard load floor flipped over. And that leaves a big open well. Looks like I'll be spending the money to cover the hole.

Most everything "loose" should be available through parts if you didn't get it on first order.

We have the same concern for our dogs - covering the "hole" when the rear seats are folded down and the panel is flipped forward. Our dealer told us it would not be easy to retrofit the load floor. He said several parts must be replaced for the load floor to fit. We ordered the car with the load floor added.

Sometimes I think you need a bigger smiley on your 1 liners.

I am looking for a vault within the hatch, since I have gear I want to protect.

We shall see how it all comes out on our big trip in June.

I'm guessing the logic is that the well is hidden and most people don't know it is there and, the ones that do, would think it was full of spare tire. Also, a smash-and-grab thief would have to go through a lot to get to it. You'd only need a lock if you left the CM sitting with the hatch open. I'm not likely to do that.

I have a shovel with a telescoping handle, some cargo straps, a compressor, a tire plug kit and some other tools in the well. It would make the space more useful to cover and not just pile on top of the emergency stuff. $250 does seem to be a lot for something that was included on most previous cars, but I will probably get one

That price is actually kinda low IMHO, I remember I had to get a new luggage area cover for my allroad (its the pull shade kind), and it listed for close to $400, I was lucky to find one on ebay for like $175. These co. gouge us for the simplest things cause there is no competition. Like my dads CRV (and my allroad) you can only get the wiper blades from the dealership now, and they run like $60 for the set.

I finalized my CM-S order this past Wed & I did include the flat load floor because it was available again. At $250(MINIs magical number for smaller options), I'm not sure I'd ever order after delivery. I believe the extra floor board will prove handy as I regularly load/unload light equipment.

At $250 some items seem more appropriately priced, such as the Anthracite headliner, while I truly feel it should be a color choice rather than an option, when you look at all of the parts/hardware that is changed it seems more reasonable than a carpeted board or an iPhone snap-in-cradle that needs to be purchased separately for an Armrest that you are forced to buy with Connected. IMHO

Unhappy I hadn't seen those pics before...

I have the flat load floor, but the middle picture shows the space between the two rear seats blocked by what seems to be the hatch cover lowered. In my car I can see between the two rear seats to the back of the car--not very secure.

I'll check again tomorrow as the car is still new to me, but I don't see how I can configure it to block that space and keep the floor flat.

Our dealer showed us how the "bifold" panel (shown upright in the middle photo with small flap folded down) flips all the way forward to cover the folded down rear seats and cover the gap between them. Then with the flat load floor, the entire rear area is "flat" with no holes or gaps.

My MA says it is coming as an accessory, but they haven't seen it yet.

Or how about a few plastic rings painted chrome, or any of the other interior plastic add ons.

I didn't want to wait and also I thought not enough of the folded down seat area was covered. I made a piece to fit that is hinged in the middle and held down with a strap to pull the seats flatter. With the boot cover removed it is like a small station wagon. I can flip up the well cover and lock it up exposing the boot well and blocking the boot area and still have the seats down and the dog can ride in comfort with the luggage secure. There are some pictures in my gallery. I spent a day and about $50 to make it. When folded it will fit in the boot, but, not in the well.

Whoops--I'm a knucklehead. I thought I had the flat load floor, but it seems I don't. I swear I ordered it, but I guess it was deleted and with all these piecemeal options I forgot about it.

I'll look into the option of a flat load floor from the dealer, as MINI should have made this standard in the first place.

From this picture it looks like the flat load floor is nothing more than a cover for the open well, most likely with hydraulics to hold it up. I would find it hard to believe that Mini would manufacture the vehicles with different parts that would obviate owners from adding it after the fact.

It is unfortunate that Mini did not think about making this part standard. My X5 has something very similar...there is a lockable compartment cover that opens with hydraulic hinges to reveal a similar storage well.

I am looking forward to my first and new Mini, but I think this brand does itself and its customers a poor service by nickel and diming us the way they do. The packages should be consolidated better than they are at better price points.

It's not nickel and diming us - it's youification. I'm looking forward to ordering a spiral groove, friction fastening device. That would be - - - screw youification.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw they wanted $250 for a freaking cargo net! That's just crazy.

$250 for cargo net??? Don't expect hydraulics in a stupid well cover. MINI's flat load floor option may be youification, but, I agree with Sealy. For $50 you can make your own that covers a lot more of the rear seat floor area.

Now, if MINI offered something like I built, I'd pay $250 to not have to spend a day making it.

Flat Load Floor Mod Thread

I didn't see this thread before I created this other thread so I figured I would post a link to it here:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...floor-mod.html

For those of you that didn't get a flat load floor with your CM, it is very easy to build.
